This realm is a prison!
Whenever I try and use the free transfer, I get stuck “connecting to shop”. There is no escape!
this isnt going to solve the issue.
heavily populated realms exist because of;
A: a centralized Auction house that has far more options due to population as well as better pricing due to said pop
B: better raid scene due to the bigger option of guilds to go to/from/with
C: a preferable faction stack.
Exactly. This is why I don’t recommend anyone who’s on Draenor right now from transferring away. It’s the cheapest and easiest way for Blizzard to solve Their problem. Let them upgrade the servers instead and fix it.
Really amazed how a million dollar company can’t even do something as simple as going into the AWS dashboard, clicking on your server and upgrading the instance. It’s that easy for most companies, why is it so hard for Blizzard?
They won’t do that, I said that before many times.

Tried that 3 times, kicked to login screen every time.
Damn the character has guild master, need to turn off addons and try again.
Dont worry. few people leaving the server wont help anything. More people will join this server as long as the doors are open.

Sounds good! However, If you can’t even login to then use the store to transfer the characters. Why is it now an ingame action? What was wrong with doing it through the website lol

Free player transfers is a sticky plaster that is already falling off before its applied.

Just tried to transfer on my brother’s account and he is having the same issue. I suspect now word has gotten out people are piling on to do it. Fingers crossed the free transfer will be up for a few days so those who are having issues now can do it later.
You’re oversimplifying it. I work in cloud infrastructure and although it’s very easy to increase a hosts resources it doesn’t mean that you’ll get better performance from the system running on that host. There’s probably tonnes of coding bottlenecks, this is a 15 year old game after all using an old and inefficient engine.
Not to say i’m defending them, i’m not. They need to get it sorted one way or another.

A huge number of people have returned for this expansion. Those people with no ties are ideally suited to move to another realm. Though some people are moving even if they have some ties, you can do most things with friends cross realm these days. The only exception is Mythic raiding (or at least until the Hall of Fame is filled, if that is still going to be the trigger).
As I said before in another discussion (before the transfers were offered) people have been flocking to busy realms for years as Blizzard ignored the dying realms for too long. Even this time round people felt not enough merges were done and the programme seemed to stop abruptly. As you rightly point out people want the larger player pools, bigger selection of guilds and big economies.
I do like that this time the FCM has no set destinations, allowing people to choose where they go more freely. Within reason of course, the realms that are already suffering are not an option.
So I finally managed to connect and the best I can do is transfer ONE character at the time??? No whole realm at once? And ofc it’s stuck frozen on the “connecting to shop” loading screen after clicking on free transfer… I got 14 chars to move… gonna take me days.
And why the hell doesn’t the destination drop menu list all the realms in addition to showing their population, and horde : alliance ratio? I mean jesus christ these are the most important things to show us but you don’t, and you even hide the list? Like we literally need to google wtf named servers there are and all the other stats? AND THIS IS NORMALLY A PAID SERVICE??? G. T. F. O.

90% of Kazzak or Draenor’s population doesn’t play at a level where any of this is a real concern.

If you look at the entire thread, most people have gone from Full to High or other Full servers.
Imo keep Free Transfers on Permanently from all Full/High to medium low; Or even better. Blizz will do more connections between the lowest servers.
This thread is probably more worthy of a sticky than a legendary cloak change from the prior expansion too.
