It’s all very unclear at the moment on that plan.
What happened last time was you got to choose where you wanted to go, within reason, then after a while you got forced onto a pre decided realm.

Yeah, Probably. Unless they connect realms instead of merging them. A lot of people don’t know the difference but merging means to realms fully join and connecting is the realms are connected and you keep your name. The old CharacterName-RealmName fiasco.
I wish they would be clearer as to what they mean by “consolidating”.
From their wording it looks like they have not really decided on that themselves yet.
That’s probably also the reason why they are asking for feedback.
I hope they also look at dead factions and not just dead realms. Im stuck on a dead horde side with 10 characters while alliance side is pretty full. So never free transfers since realm in total is not dead.
I think this is their intention.
They think Cata will be huge succes so question is how soon, in 6 month? Soon ™
PVP Season 8 is ending on April 15th. Traditionally that means that prepatch follows soon after (in a week or so). so I presume they will allow transfers around that time.
I feel like consolidating servers is a short-term fix that probably won’t fix the underlying problem for long. I am honestly starting to believe that the fix we got in BFA is preferable; that servers are linked and world pvp is opt-in. It’s not very “classic”, perhaps, but the current situation isn’t either.
I hope they don’t merge the big realms such as firemaw and gehennas, They’re fine as is.
I doubt they gonna open transfer that soon, they may wait to see what actual numbers on realms on cata opening, and then make decision.
