Free Trial Changes

Greetings travelers. I’ve learned about a change to free trial system. Normally when we were going to buy a WoW token, game masters used to give us 1 day of play time so we can take gold on inventory and go for the process. Yesterday i messaged a game master and got a response that says they cannot grant a free day since it is no longer necessary to activate a WoW token. You can add game time to your account, or ensure that you have enough gold on your characters or in their in-game mail on a single realm. Log into character selection screen and use the gold to purchase game time!

First two suggestions are invalid for me as i want to send gold to my cousin so he can buy a WoW token. The thing is, free trial characters are unable to use in-game mail service. So i want to make sure that when we create a new char for him, and when i send a token gold to him, he can buy a token through character selection. Since it is through in-game mail service and he will be free trial, can he still use the gold that way? Does anyone know anything about that?

yeah i did read these, but then how the game master can say it is no longer necessary if nothing has changed.

I would move your question to the CS forum if I were you. You should be able to edit your opening post and choose the relevant forum.

Hello ßerqueén

If I understand your post correctly, you are basically trying to send gold to your cousin so that they can reactivate their own account, am I right?

If that’s the case, there are a couple of extra things to take into account such as:

  • Is your cousin account a brand new one, or an old account that has been inactive for a long time?
  • Is your own account currently active with gametime or not?

Depending on what’s the answer to the above questions, a few different scenario opens up, for example:

    • If your cousin account is a brand new one, they won’t be able to activate it with a token regardless of receiving gold or not. This is due to the fact that the FIRST activation of account MUST be done by purchasing at least one month of gametime.
    • If your cousin account has been inactive for a long time, but had AT LEAST one month of gametime purchased since 2017, they should be able to reactivate it via a WoW Token as long as the gold is available in one or more characters (including in-game mail).

Regarding this 2nd point however the following must be taken into consideration:

  • If your own account is NOT active, you would NOT be able to send them gold. In this case you will first need to reactivate your own account, and then you would be able to send gold to your cousin. To the best of my knowledge, GMs wouldn’t be able to grant you free gametime to “bypass” the need of reactivating your own account.
  • If your own account is active, you can send gold via in-game mail to one of your cousin characters. They will need to wait a bit - one hour - for the mail to arrive on the character, but after this time has passed they should be able to purchase the token from the character selection scree. GMs wouldn’t be able to grant free gametime to your cousin to claim the in-game mail (as it is not necessary) nor would be they able to speed up the mail delivery time (which is “only” one hour anyway)

Please let us know if I misunderstood your case, otherwise I hope the above can clarify the situation for you

Thank you so much for your answer.

-Yes, my account is active, i have 3 months of game time currently.

-Yes, my cousin bought game time with real money before, but he has been away for a few months and now he has no game time, so it is inactive at the moment.

So if i understood you correct, he will log in with a character that is 20 or under. I will be able to send this character gold via in-game mail service. Even though he cannot take the gold on his character, he can still use the gold through character creation screen even tho he is still a free trial to buy WoW token.

He shouldn’t even need to login on the character receiving the mail with gold, as soon as said mail is available (which should take roughly 1 hour from the moment it was sent - give or take a few minutes  ) the option to reactivate the account through the character selection screen should be available

Best of luck ßerqueén, and happy adventuring to both you and your cousin!

He just received the mail, i’ve sent 400.000 gold, so it is enough to buy a token. He went to character selection screen but the gold option is not active. He cannot press it. So we tried to relog, restart the game etc, but he still cannot use that button. What should we do now?

Just to be on the safe side ßerqueén, can you make sure your cousin is actually in the realm of the character that received the mail?
This can be done through the Realm button at the top.

With how the WoW character screen works now this is a detail that is not necessarily always clear :frowning:

Yes i’ve sent it to a character that is on Argent Dawn, he just created that character on the same account he bought a game time before(so it’s not a new account, just a new character in a new realm) and we added eachother with “add character to friend list” button. He is also trying to press the button while Argent Dawn is chosen from server menu. We used to play on Killrogg server. Just in case he also tried to check the that server, but no, button is not clickable. So what are we doing next?

That’s interesting for sure, from what you described you both did everything correctly.

Without checking the account/character (which will require your cousin to open a new ticket :frowning: ) I can think only of one reason that can be the cause of this, which is that 400k is not enough.

While the WoW token is currently a bit less than 400k (something around 385k if memory serves) the system is setup in a way that also considers how much gold would be left on a character following the token purchase.

In other words, it’s good practice to make sure to always have a 5/10% more than the actual token price

If you can, it may be a good idea to send your cousin another 15/20k, which should cover the “safety net” the system expects to leave.

If even this doesn’t work, I am afraid your cousin will need to open a new ticket and ask GMs to check why the gold in mail is not usable as it should :frowning:

sure, just to make sure i am sending him 100k more and token is currently 380k, changes between 370k-385k, so he will have 500k, let’s see.

Edit: OOOO MMMM GGGGG yesss yesss yesss it worked, just like you said, we sent some more gold and it worked, the button now works, thank you sooooo much, loveee youuu <33333

Thank you so much Punyelf also, for guiding me to relevant forum. <3333
