Frost DK: Dual-Wield vs. 2-Hand in PvP

Why do people use 2-Hand wep in PvP as Frost DK?

I do aprrox. 10-15% more overall dps within a timeframe of 30 seconds with DW than I do with 2H and 5-8% more within a timeframe of 15 seconds. Yet, people seem to favor 2H “because of its burst”.

*Obliterate do indeed do more overall dmg with 2H, but this is compensated through other frost abilities with DW.

Am I missing out on something?

Yap. Burst. If you do consistent damage Wich can be outhealed it’s bad you need burst

With several additional tests (on dummy within timeframes 5 & 10 secs) I find the burst to be equal (that is, roughly 5% interval +/- depending on procs for both DW and 2H). The only difference is that 2H does more Obliterate damage compared to DW. That said, DW outperforms on Frorst Fever, Remorseless Winter and Howling Blast etc.

I struggle to find true evidence on 2H being the best option on PvP.

In my experience it’s really close in terms of overall dps but I prefer 2h in pvp for two reasons:

First two handed is just more bursty with it’s fat obliterates, whereas DW is more sustained dmg but burst is king in pvp.

And secondly DW damage is too relation on BoS, and in pvp so many things can go wrong and mess up your BoS window which really reduces your overall damage.

I’d imagine it might have something to do with loads of Unholy dks trying out frost for pvp. They probably already have a good 2H weapon and can’t be bothered to get 2 more weapons for DW. That’s my reason at least.

They’re similar in burst, but Unholy is far better than Frost in PvE, so there’s no real reason to waste time farming two 1h weapons when you can perform well as 2h Frost in PvP with a 2h weapon and switch to Blood/Unholy easily for PvE. The only time it’s worth getting 1h weapons for PvP is when you’ve pretty much fully decked yourself in conquest gear, so you can spend the excess conquest on 2x1h weapons.
