Today i’ve been testing the Frost ‘rework’ and these are my experiences.
Our AOE still suffers from the same problem. You are dependent on the opponent staying immobile, which is a huge con in Mythic+. The damage output is a bit higher, but nothing spectacular. You have a short burstwindow with CoC reset CD on Comet Storm and Frozen Orb but it won’t blow you away. Underwhelming at best. Comet Storm just hits like a wet noodle and doesn’t have the impact you would expect.
Glacial Assault talent? I mean do we even have to mention this absolute waste of a talent point. Flurry has a 25% chance to rain down an ABSOLUTE NUKE of a Comet dealing 4k frost damage. Have mercy on our opponent when that thing lands.
Ray of Frost AoE with Capstone? It’s a joke.
Even in a best case scenario our AOE is pitifull at best, it’s an absolute disaster.
2-target cleave is solid, as it was. Glacial Spike and even Ebonbolt (which you can play to bait a guaranteed Flurry to shatter a Glacial Spike) cleave, which makes our cleave damage really strong.
Single target is another mess. Ray of Frost even when capstone talented feels underwhelming. It has PvP-talent written all over it. If you play it make sure to activate it after Icy Veins and BEFORE Frozen Orb, it generates FoF charges.
Glacial Spike feels good when you can shatter it but if you are on 5 icicles and you have no flurry available/no winters chill stacks it feels bad to press it. You can bait a brain freeze with Frostbolt or guaranteed generate one with Ebonbolt but if you are out of shatter combo when you are on 5 icicles it feels very very bad.
All in all, the new abilities poeple were talking about pretty much all hit like a wet noodle or feel very counterintuitive to press (looking at Ray of Frost)
The Icy Veins rework is very VERY bad. It’s a very very WEAK cooldown to press, don’t expect to be dealing a ton of damage when it’s up, you won’t. On live Icy Veins with double RoP pulls much higher numbers and the double RoP is pretty much the same uptime the entire Icy Veins buff has now. As soon as it runs out you feel very very slow and clunky compared to live.
All spells feel undertuned with the exception of Glacial Spike and the loss of Icy Veins makes it feel very slow.
DPS wise, Single Target about the same as retail, perhaps a bit lower.
AoE is an increase but non of the issues got fixed and the burst is laughable compared to other classes.
Let’s hope for some changes before this abomination of a ‘rework’ goes live.
U dont have to wait for Brain Freeze procs, or use ebonbolt for a proc, Flurry gives you the winters chill whiteout any proc, sure its less damage but who cares? This Glacial Spike build is much smoother than it was before in BFA. Now the winters chill have 2 stacks +its up for long, +flurry is an instant cast spell whiteout procs too. Back then you could’nt manage to make Shatter Glacial Spikes whiteout Brain Freeze, now you can.
Sometimes you will be on 5 icicles without a flurry available and with no more Winter’s Chill debuffs left. You can either press it and hope for a crit (because you can’t shatter it) or bait one guaranteed with Ebonbolt (which also won’t always be available) or spam frostbolt -which feels extremely underwhelming and SLOW without Icy Veins- and bait a brain freeze.
You will have Glacial Spike available without the ability to shatter it, and it feels bad. Holding on to it and getting unlucky with frostbolt procs feel horrible. If you don’t get a proc after four frostbolts you pretty much wasted a Glacial Spike.
Sure, sometimes, but did u played frost mage back in BFA? Back than it was worse, when u made icicles only with frostbolts, now everything makes icicles so if sometimes u cant shatter the GP then whatever? Every 3rd spell could be glacial spike now, splintering cold and hailstones makes its so easy. With this build you can cast much more GP than back in BFA +its easier to shatter them thanks to the baseline instant cast Flurry. Maybe its not perfect but much better than this current icy lance spam+‘‘icicles will do the work’’ build.
Hi, don’t remove “summon Water elemental”, I really enjoy to combine it’s Freeze hability with glacial spike and feels really nice going around with Iit. Regards.
I tell you blizzard, dont you dare to touch the mage, you where supposed to rework him to improve hes mobility by removing rune of power, what you actually do here is nerf all hes dmg output, fire and frost will be destroyed if you push this abomination of rework into live servers. Dont you dare to touch mage Sir! Whoever is pushing those changes should start looking for a new job.
