I’m all for derailing this thread, atleast anything will be better than another “Corpos are hypocritic amirite guys hehe” Circleadmiring (i created censored word)
The thing about feminism i’ve noted the most is.
As long as the woman makes her choice herself, it’s fine, be it becoming an “adult movie” actress or anything in between. Then again, that’s what the movement is all about.
Mia Khalifa for an example worked in the industry for a year and left. She got her wealth and fame and influence from that.
It’s only a problem when men begins to tell or draw what they see as a woman. Aka game developers, which are primarily men.
In the end, why Wow would even be rated T (12+) and even want to keep that rating in the first place?
The first reason behind compagnies wanting to keep th lowest rating possible was to be able to sell their product in stores like Walmart that straight up did not accepted to sell any game rated over Teen (13+) in the 2000-2015 era (now they even lowered it to E which is pretty much 6+).
Now that Wow’s rentability is no more chained to it’s store sales due to the democratization of online payments methods, and considering their audience is aging, the average player being 30-35 years old, i really don’t get it why they actively choose to keep their actual rating (and thus make actions in order to keep it).
So public opinion remains the sole reason. Then comes Diablo and suddently no one seems to care about it being ‘‘offensive’’ in any sens, even asking why would Lilith be so much covered (i personally really like her design, tho) or Andarielle being tone down in her redesign. The general public opinion seems to crave having sexier characters. I’ll bet that most of you enjoy the left middle part of the Dragonflight loading screen everytime you load into the Dragon Isles, while looking at the same character in-game and finding her awkward and childish.
I’m not saying Blizz should return to the Wotlk-Cata sexualization style with outfits like Sylvanas, Ysera and Alexstrasza had, but maybe Blizz should stop seeing their audience as possible childs and more as adults. In that way, i think the Jaina redesign(BFA), the Ranger-General Sylvanas and her version after reuniting with her soul were the perfect middle-grounds in my opinion, sexy, but not teen oriented sexy.
Dragonflight in comparison feel childish in most of it’s design and in that way, it shows that DF had been produced in the aftermath of the Lawsuit. I just hope they’ll get inspired by the Diablo well received launch when producing the next expansion (Which is pretty much normally in a rough state right now, as the production should have started in a big way in order to have something to show at Blizzcon, but still subject to minor changes).
Rating process is a total joke, tbf. It says next to nothing about the product and parents should never ever follow this guideline.
Most games devs target a specific note and since the game can be re-evaluated again and again, with each time a different team with different sensibilities (And the rating is pretty much a feeling based process with some guideline), as a AAA company, you can roll again and again until you get the rating you want.
And even then, the Wow audience is not 12+, it’s more about 20-23+ because it does not appeal to the new generation of Gamers (Being by it’s mechanics or the sub fee gating while there’s a ton of F2P games out there). It could be Rated Mature that it would not drop it’s playerbase in any sens. So why staying rated Teen?
Thats the operative word though a Guidline, it doesn’t state that they shouldn’t, for example, give a 12 yr old GTA, but it guides them as to the contents and lets them make their own decision.
