Isn’t there an age guideline for Bnet though?

Yes, but what i mean by that is that a game that could be considered 17+ by most players actually playing the game could easily be rated 12-13+ with a proper lucky roll on the team evaluating it (Which are random voluntaries). And it was even more random in the early 2000 than it is now.

As an example, Prince of Persia 2 was rated 13+, while it was pretty violent, had a ton of sexual themed characters and had horror-type mechanics that could easily make it being 16-17+ at that time. But Ubisoft achieved, by sending a tone down slice of the game to evaluation, to get a T13+ rating, which made them be able to sell their games in stores.

I remember quite well having to ask my mom to come with me to buy Diablo2 cause it was 16+ and as so, buying it underage required a parent authorization (to be fair, most little retailer did not cared, but the only store who sold it in my town did as it was a big franchise).

If you’re asking yourself why the Violence level (Default 0) is a hidden console command, it’s probably due to Blizz not being able to put it in the option menu because of it, in order to keep the rating low. The base game does feature little to no blood. And even if most players knows this, they actively have to modify the game base values without’‘Blizz consent’’ in order to get it bloodier.

Rating manipulation is pretty common. That’s why i say that, as a guideline, it’s next to have no value, aside maybe 3+, 6+ and Mature that are pretty straight forward. And even then, most companies that aim at Mature (which are not that common) does it so they can cash-in on the fame that comes with it. A diablo game rated 16+, today, would have been seen as a fail after the community despited the arcade style of D3. It had to be Mature, so they had to make it so gore and dark it would not be rated under it.

None of which is relevant to my point!

The ratings are solely there to guide purchases to the content of the game.

Which is my point exactly.

What point exactly? That credulous and uninformed parents should base their decision on a guideline that is as precise as a Drunk Stormtrooper? As a guideline, it failed horribly. And since we entered the dematerialized era, it as next to no power since they can’t pressure stores to enforce their rating.

Or maybe it’s your point that Wow is 13+ while it should not even matter?

You are aware what a guideline is?

Seems not, it is a guide to give

An idea of what the game contains!

Little 4 yr old Billy wants GTA, the rating gives the parents an idea of the content.

If it gives the parents an idea of what the game contains then yes, some parents might not like the idea of being able to talk to other players online, the guideline gives them the option to decide.

Do you also like pointing out that sun is hot and gun can kill person?

The first time I’ve seen wow ad in cataclysm it’s raiting was pegi 12.

It’s, not true you are blatantly lying, by the way it was not a “few years” ago, mop released 12 years ago

actually if you google the orignal wow box you will see it was 12+ even back then :stuck_out_tongue: they sorta changed it to T for a while but it always started its life as a 12+ game

having a bunch of devs that can’t keep it in their pants or having a sex offender as ceo don’t change that

Me: so let’s go back before you killed 100 orcs i couldn’t help but notice kadghar, when reaching to that rock you could have used your legs?!
Kadghar: i know…:upside_down_face:

It’s 2 different rating type from 2 rating orgs on 2 different continents.

PEGI (EU) rated it 12+
ESRB (US) rated it T, which is 13+

12+ did not exist in US back then (and still doesn’t, if i’m correct). And neither was 13+ in the PEGI. The two come from the “officially considered teenager” age in each territory.

Both of them kept their rating from vanilla, which also lead to a little more visceral answer from the europeans about child protection in-game and a clear problem about the fact Social media is generally 13+, while a game like Wow that can harm in the same way is 12+ in Europe.

Both rating agencies are industry owned.
Aka it’s the video game industry that regulates and rate itself.

They’re nothing but guidelines as mentioned.

This is one of the dumbest stuff I have seen, everytime someone actually says they are gonna/have unsub the community keeps saying bliz won’t care. Now its telling someone to vote with their wallet by unsubbing, reality is bliz still wouldn’t care

nah the dumbest would be your reply for taking the oldest meme in the community seriously no one really expect anyone to unsub to make a statement

Dunno the way u wrote that made me believe u are a bit special in the head, mb u more snowflake than i imagined

Nan, people just want the game to be uncensored, provoking on the obvious thing that happenned in the recent years.

What people want is a come back to epic moments, to be able to argue which character is the sexiest without being pointed out as toxic male behavior, play the game without being remembered that some devs in there wants to push political agenda over them or even antagonised their own customers. They want to be represented in-game again as the good guys, instead of always see their favorite character become a vilain and be trashed talk about in the process. Some just want to have sexy outfits because it’s what they prefer (and it’s mostly female players). Some are just disgusted by the fact their opinion is being silenced(/spit), they want to still laugh at jokes about the big love rocket or the fact the worgen is a good girl…

slightly, yes.

I heard that she has been struggling to find a boyfriend / husband, literally sad story.

WoW was 12 on paper but it had more mature themes. It is 12 now but looks like a pegi 7. As I always say, they had more mature story for younger audience, they do exact opposite for an older audience now…

There will always be a man, desperate enough to want her.
She just have troubles finding someone who fits her standards.

Of course, there will always be a Forrest Gump, one day.

She’ll revert back to her original bowl of fruit form once this promotion is done, of course.
