Fu Zan animation (or why Blizzards sloppiness is depressing me)

I really don’t know where else to post so I’ll say it here.

The way that Fu-Zan clips through the character during shadowlands is actually getting me down.

I’ve played my monk since MoP and since legion i’ve loved the brewmaster Artifact Fu-Zan, it truly makes my character look like the quintessential brewmaster, aesthetics are a big part of WoW for me and I often times choose my characters based on style.

However, as many of you will no doubt be aware, blackout strike is reverting to blackout kick for the first time since WoD, not only robbing us of any use of our weapons but creating huge clipping issues for Fu-Zan.

I hate clipping so much and this large amount just feels like sloppiness on Blizzards part, I also feel that with Monks being the least played class that this is an oversight they’re happy to overlook, if Druids had such an issue it’d be fixed in a flash.

Now i’m even thinking about rerolling in Shadowlands to something else, the lack of Covenant that synergises with the monk class was reason enough but now this…it’s so frustrating, especially as I can’t post in shadowlands beta forums to express this.

The good news is there are easy ways to fix this.

  1. give us blackout strike for 2 handers automatically
  2. give us a glyph to revert it when equipping two handers
  3. fix the animation so it doesn’t clip during blackout kick.

Rant over, it feels cathartic to complain even though nothing will be done…

Anyone else agree?

I have tested 2h with Fu Zan transmog specced as WW on the pre-patch (not Beta) and I didn’t notice any clipping at all, most animations remain similar to current live, the character strikes with the left hand while holding Fu Zan above his shoulder while the rest of the attacks where he kicks (including BLK as WW) or uses both hands the weapon sheathes on his back. This said I didn’t know that BrM is losing Blackout Strike and getting BLK same as WW and this is a shame as the down smash attack animation with the staff looks really cool but I didn’t notice any clipping playing WW and the staff fits all the animations imo. Correct me if I’m wrong but Blackout Strike as far as I can tell is the only attack on a Monk’s arsenal where he actually uses a weapon right? I can see you’re a Panda, not sure if any clipping you are having may be related to your race, as a female Mag’har Orc I couldn’t really fault any animations with Fu-Zan, alas the only reason I even logged into the PTR was to test this as I’m so hyped to wield it playing as WW.

Monk is a great class and I honestly don’t get all the complains in the forum regarding monk and I definitely wouldn’t reroll a class based on something as minor as one animation but to each it’s own. I guess I just have lower expectations coming from an older generation and I usually get happy with less rather than more so I’ll stick to my Monk. The class plays superb for me as it is, could see a few minor tweaks but it’s not like I would find any solace playing any other class as every class has its own issues anyway.

Have fun with whatever choice you make.
