The functionality and UI of the WoW in-game calendar is poor and out-dated. Are there any plans to update it or has it ever been mentioned?
It is disappointing to have to use Discord bots to organise in-game events when the calendar has so much potential but seems to be overlooked for development. Events (whether Blizzard or player run) are such an important aspect of the game, as a player it is frustrating to have such an inaccessible system in the game to organise them.
I have asked some members of my guild for ideas for improvement:
- Allow players to indicate a role when signing to an event.
- If the event is a raid, have a way of allowing a guild rank (e.g. Officer and above) to ‘reply’ to the sign with a confirmed/unconfirmed status.
- Allow categories of event types (e.g. Guild, Personal, Raid, Dungeon, Social … can be edited by the event creator) and allow for the calendar to be filtered based on these.
- Introduce a proper text-based search function for keywords or event types.
- Allow event templates to be saved by players/guilds.
- Have a pop-out interface be displayed when clicking on an event in the calendar.
- Option to export events to Discord.
- Weekly and daily view options.
- Allow users to create recurring events for guild members for weekly raid.
- Allow users to set event reminders for both created events and in-game events.
- Allow event host to contact signed up users.
- Allow users to view the calendar in expanded window and full screen.
- Allow users to change font colours and size (there is currently a lot of inaccessible small white text on colourful backgrounds).
- Allow users to set other players as event admins or co-hosts.
- Allow users to move an event to a different day. Add drag and drop functionality.
- Allow users to invite members of a bnet community, instead of just guild.
- Ensure compatibility with the mobile app.
I hope these ideas are helpful/that the community agrees they’d be good improvements to make. Thanks.
