What do you guys think, would be the best concept for a future expansion?
I’m not neccessarily talking about 9.0… Just a future expansion im general! (or a chain of a few expansions)
I am still learning most of the lore, so I’k obviously not an expert, but we are running out of original Warcraft villains and places, aren’t we?
All these 9.0 speculations seem to base purely on the thing that hapoened in WoW, and I think it’s the first expansion of that kind?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but
TBC: We knew of all the baddies and Outland from Warcraft lore
WOTLK: Pretty much a “sequel” to the Frozen Throne expansion
Cata: We knew of Deathwing and the Old Gods before Cata
MoP: Well Garrosh is a completely WoW character, but at least Pandaria is something we knew of before
Legion: All about the Legion that we definitely knew of before
BfA: The faction conflict part was kind of a deja vu, and we were aware of the N’zoth amd Azshara even before they suddenly showed up and surprised us all
Sorry this turned out to be a litlr longet than expected… Hope I made my question clear at least. Again, correct me if I’m wrong, pelase!
TL;DR : Are we running out of original villains? What are your ideas for future expansions?
Jokes aside, I fully expect either a full-focused old god expansion (with the other Old Gods returning and the infinite dragonflight/Dragon Isles) or a death-themed expansion (Shadowlands, Sylvanas, Helya, Kel’thuzad etc) next.
We’re definitely running low on some of the “old” original villains and locations, but it was always inevitable as they couldn’t rely on them forever. For the most part I don’t have a problem with them writing up new locations and villains and the like.
It was always going to be a problem I agree, but it was on that could have been slowed down by introducing characters like Garrosh and experiencing their character arcs. Blizzard have axed more interesting characters than they have introduced.
Not just that, but forgetting them too. There’s plenty of characters out there that could have slowly grown into a more prominent role that just get never touched on again.
What I want, irrespective of that kind of threat we’ll face, is that we get race-specific content throughout an expansion. The races work together, but we get a lot of content showing how the Tauren, Night Elves… Goblins, to name a few, deal with said threat.
With Legion we got the Burning Legion and the invasion’s consequences on the classes, which I thought was great. The content moved away from class-specific things in the end, and we worked together.
Now give us an expansion where we focus on the races and develop their lore, culture, but just don’t ruin our already established lore, please Blizzard.
What I would really appreciate is a more light-hearted expansion. Battle for Azeroth was rather grim and gruesome, a darker expansion than previous ones I would say.
Some kind of expansion where there is a focus on rebuilding the world after so many successive disasters and conflicts.
With that in mind and the faction war being over, with new political lines to draw, it could be an ideal time for another Cataclysm-esque revamp of the Old World. A focus on renewal, development and restoration of the world and the races that we already have and know.
Obviously, some kind of underlying plot is needed, but to see the next threat actually come creeping on the horizon - instead of exploding forth at the expansion launch - would be a nice change of pace.
I think an expansion of rebuilding would be great! One based around a factions internal politics (looking at you Alliance) and attempting to rebuild from the Blood War.
Zone revamp would be one way to go, perhaps a garrison system could be revamped in strategic areas to solidify your respective factions control. Supply lines, resolving internal disputes, utilising any remaining Azerite and perhaps dealing with the Night Elven resistance in the middle of it all.
