Just for context i’ll explain my situation first.
I am a active raider, m+ and PvP player achieved multiple CEs, Gladiators and Keystone Masters, not really had any interest in pushing M+ score for R1 title before the current season.
I have cleared the entirety of HC every week since release (total 12 clears) in addition to reclearing Mythic for extra lessers. My character is 487 ilvl equipped and i do not need HC for any other reason than the legendary and the situation has been like this for me for weeks. I understand that a legendary should feel rare. At this point i have just decided to put my main on the bench untill i get the legendary (which is required by the members of the m+ pushing community) No competetive players enjoy playing suboptimally especially not when RNG is the reason for your suboptimal performance.
For me the most annoying thing is the fact that there is no solid information of the droprate itself nor how much these bad luck protection items yield in terms of progression towards the drop.
My suggestion is therfore:
Announce a baseline droprate for the legendary.
Share information about how much these bad luck protection items help, so that people can consider if their 1-4 hour weekly reclear of the entirety of HC is worth it for them.
Add some kind of buff which shows how much bad luck protection you have used, personally and i know other people has said that they wonder if their bad luck protection is bugged because they have no way of actually tracking how many uses of the token they have used.
People are also discussing if these bad luck protection items even do anything because there is no way to know.
Add a 100% droprate to the lesser embers from mythic bosses.
Add Lesser ember droprates to m+ (forexample keys above +20 or +18)
I understand for some people this doesn’t matter, but for people who play this game competetive or WANT to do so feel very limited. I don’t intend to quit the game if i don’t get it i simply play one of my alts. But i hate feeling like i waste on avg 2-3 hours of my week on farming a legendary when i got maybe 10 hours total where i can play the game, which i’d much rather spend on M+ or Rated PvP.
Your suggestions how to improve the situation are very good, however the core way of obtaining the legendary is still rubbish in my eyes.
From my experience, which is playing the game since the very beginning, I always found the methods to obtain Shadowmourne, Tarecgosa and Fangs of the Father to be the best. Slight needed twist to tackle the playerbase mentality in 2024, is to just make the 'materials for the quests (cinders, shadowfrost shards etc.) personal loot with a fixed amount of mats you can obtain per week (i.e. 2 items from normal, 4 from heroic, 6 from mythic per week, and the total quest would require maybe 30-40 items), meaning you wouldn’t need a guild or anything to benefit more. The legendary Pandaria cloak system would fit great.
I believe, that a ‘legendary’ item should be awarded 100% as a result of hard work, not killing the same boss every week, hoping to hit that sweet spot. We already gamble with the normal epics way too much.
Yeah i am not a fan of how the legendary acquisition is done and i believe they could have done it differently. I also prefer those ways of obtaining legendaries, it definately feels more rewarding than just pure RNG and you know that after hard work you will be awarded.
The suggestion is basically to make the current way of getting the item feel less painful. Since i do not believe they would completely revamp how the legendary is obtained…
Been killing fyrak hc since lego was avail not got it since but people with alts or off specs are getting it instead! like wtf and this is guild runs!
They said it makes legendary feel great to obtain well so far its a bloody lottery system! i’d be happy if they just made it token base you need set amount of materials to make it! at least you know then your working towards an end goal.
100% agree with this, I dislike that the gaming culture has turned into a bunch of lazy gamers who want instant gratification in all their games, complain when something isn’t given to them in a silver plater.
Bring back the good old days of gaming.
Also while we’re at it, as gaming is so huge, I think governments should be sitting in and putting in a similar system to South Korea, where when you create any form of account of gaming, you have to enter your national ID.
Then make it illegal by law to cheat ingames, sell or buy digital games products, which aren’t being sold directly by the game creators etc. Only way to really put an end to the botting/cheating culture.
You get caught cheating, you get fined and banned from all online gaming activities for several months.
(sits back and waits for the fish to take the bait)
You now have an extensive questline and rng drop. I agree with what Pihale said “I always found the methods to obtain Shadowmourne, Tarecgosa and Fangs of the Father to be the best”
Also i actually prefer last patch Legion legendaries over the current way of obtaining the legendary, because the bad luck protection system actually had a end in sight with the waking essences and being able to eventually buy the legendary for that currency.
There should be a quest item you need to farm from the last boss / bosses in general and then you get it. Just like with the axe in wotlk.
cause having a rng legendary drop and then a very expensive annoying quest line is minus IQ design choice
I did it and it was just annoying. Especially the rare farm is the most dumbest thing designed. You get only at decent pace when you Spam frenzies and kill those mobs that spawn after a certain amount of trash killed.
Entitlement? I wish for an improvement atleast some kind of clarification. Also considering this legendary doesn’t even impact your class at all your opinion barely matters.
Also considering you are playing on RP server and got no Cutting Edges or Keystone masters ofc you don’t understand why this is a major problem. I am happy for you that your gameplay doesn’t get impacted by poorly executed systems, but for us that play the game for the competetive aspect (and enjoy that part of the game). Systems like this makes it impossible for us to even play the game. Myself and a mate of me who is 3,6k Rio sit in LFG looking for keys for hours, then end up getting into a key where we get kicked after receiving a message like this: “Ohh no lego, sorry” then a system message “You have been removed from the party.”
One could argue it’s a player issue but that issue wouldn’t be there in the first place if it wasn’t for the way the legendary was implemented. It was the same with the evoker legendary last patch.
I don’t know why they feel the need to shuv RNG on everything. For me RNG has stopped me from even attempting to obtain things because I have no way to gage whether this week I will or will not get it. It’s glorified gambling.
They could’ve easily made it linear progression through quests. Even if it meant you had to kill 30+ bosses on HC or higher difficulty to obtain items for the quest to start the Legendary quest.
They’ve done it before with things like Shadowmourne. RNG is not fun, or engaging in any way, and there’s 0 way of knowing if you will or will not get what you’re after. So effort could be completely in vein.
Better than being awarded a Legendary item for just being lucky in a NORMAL Fyrakk kill on the first kill, meanwhile people who kills it in Mythic is not looting it?
There is many things blizzard could do to the competetive content to make these things not matter at all, and the majority of people wouldn’t complain. Example:
Mythic+ giving the best m+ gear without exceptions.
PvP Giving the best gear for PvP.
Raids giving the best gear for Raid.
Removing gear advantage completely from High M+ and Rated PvP and implementing some kind of system (Forexample a system simular to the one Lost Ark has for PvP)
Honestly i would not mind them doing the same with raids. Would make the raids easier to tune and it would remove alot of loot drama.
Cosmetics should be the showoff and i personally am for having the gear matter in non competetive content like regular BGs, Dungeons and World content.
Some people only want to raid
Some people only want to M+
Some people only want to PvP
Everyone should be able to play the gamemode they enjoy and ONLY THAT and still be competetive WITHOUT a DISADVANTAGE.
I fondly believe the vision of having to do all the aspects of the game to be able to push the highest content is more toxic to the game than it is helpful. One of the main reasons people disliked SL was because PvE players was forced to play PvP. I am sure that there is potential MDI winners being gatekept by not having Mythic Raid Gear, especially early season.
