Every time there is a new update or something in the game changes, I have a few days of the game being unplayable due to constant crashes with error messages saying “Not enough memory” & “Requested x bytes of memory”. This only happens in Retail, not in any of the Classic versions.
I’ve tried a lot of different stuff and none of it seems to help, the only thing I can do is hope it doesn’t crash too often until it magically gets fixed a few days later again. I would love to find a solution that actually works but I’ve tried everything I can find or think of.
Stuff I’ve tried:
- Disabling all addons
- Reinstalling the game
- Deleting Cache/WTF/Inferace folders
- Turning off any overlay apps
- Changing graphics to lowest / changing Direct X version
- Reinstalled graphics driver
- Closing any other application
- Run the repair tool
- Run as admin
I probably missed some other things I’ve tried, I have no idea what I can do to try and fix this. These crashes happen every time the game gets a new patch or update. One day I can run the game flawlessly with a bunch of other stuff open and the next I crash because I moved an inch too far in Dornogal.
I know this is a bit obvious and I may get laughed at but…do you actually have enough memory?
I was getting a similar problem and I had to solve it by doubling my RAM.
However, the root cause of the problem was definitely Blizz’s unlovely coding by their new generation of interns. For me it happened one day after a patch. The day - and the months and the years - before the patch I had enough memory. The day after, I didn’t. Go figure.
Posted about it at the time and got a generic blue response.
Good luck!
And what are your system specs? Did you check if/what used available memory when WoW crashed?
I have 16 gigs of RAM, it’s not the most but it’s enough to be able to play normally.
The reason I don’t believe the memory itself is to blame is because this only happens the first couple of days after an update or patch and then the game runs flawlessly again.
I definitely do need to upgrade my stuff but I also want to know what causes this so I can avoid it while I’m waiting to get it upgraded (hopefully sooner than later)
I had this crash a long time ago. There’s literally only 1 solution: Double your ram.
I have not had this crash since I doubled mine, I had 16 like you and now I have 32 with no issues.
Afaik WoW has also been suffering from memory leak issues since the start of Dragonflight and that hasn’t made things better. My crashes happened in Dragonflight. It also gets worse in newer cities like Valdrakken and Dornogal.
Get more ram, it will solve your problems.
Can’t really do that right now so I’ll have to suffer through it until I can, but yeah, that would definitely help a lot
While probably not the case you could check that you or some other software has not changed (or least not disabled) Windows’ virtual memory.
In Wndows 10:
Settings → System → About → Advanced System Settings → Advanced tab → Settings under “Performance” → Advanced → Change button → make sure least one drive (usually system drive, C) has been set “System managed” or manually to least 4-8 GB.
