Since todays patch I have been unable to launch the game at all, when pressing play in Bnet launcher it says Launching for 2-3 seconds then the Play button becomes clickable again, it shows up in background tasks but even when waiting 10-20 minutes the game never fully launches.
I’ve found previous topics from 6-12 months ago suggesting everything from a scan and repair to adding rules to Windows Firewall, I’ve tried all of that including clearing the bnet cache and updating drivers.
I also found a thread on the US forums with this same problem today which suggested adding exceptions to anti virus software which also hasn’t worked, I’m currently in the middle of a full reinstall of both Bnet and WoW however given that trying to launch the game during the installation is causing the same problem I’m not hopeful.
This issue seem to come up every time there’s a major update but has never impacted me before and there doesn’t seem to be a consistent fix

I have the exact same issue here. I’ve tried many things myself, and I am currently reinstalling wow, I hope that fixes the issue!

Hey there,
i have the same problem. Tested already many things. Like Windows Firewall options for the game, Restarting the Game, Restarting the PC, Deinstall and Reinstalling the game and b-net launcher.
Now i deinstalled the game and deleted everything in the game ordner. Posted in the German Forum and there i still havent gotten an answer. Same like here.
So installation is finished downloaded the complet 110GB and the game still isnt starting, i dont know what to do anymore.
why is something always crashing when Blizz is bringing an update…
I have to remind you this is a recurring problem and has sometimes gone on for months without receiving proper attention, but last time around a month ago due to the number of complains they have actually fixed it within a day, for the first time in over five years.
They are familiar with the cause so there’s no excuse for it to take long.
Same issue, can’t launch the game.
Edit: Tried reinstalling Battle.net but no joy. It tells me there is a Retail update pending, but when I click the update button it says ‘cannot update when the game is running’. However, Task Manager tells me the game is NOT running.

Yeah I’ve noticed based on the threads that pop up with every major patch cycle that it’s a recurring issue and none of the threads has a catch all fix, just multiple workarounds that worked for some people
Figured it was worth mentioning it’s happening again this patch incase someone discovers something that works this time that didn’t last time, though I doubt it
Same issue (reporting for visibility). Had this at last patch as well which managed to fix with a firewall port, but not working this time - tried AV exclusions (Sophos), running as Admin, full restart, scan and repair - nothing works. Just goes back to “Play” and can see WoW task in Task Manager with no activity, even after 20 minutes of waiting.
Update 1: Ran scan-and-repair a second time, it updated some additional files, still same issue though.
Update 2: On a whim I disabled the previous firewall rule blocking traffic to 137.221.64.0/24 (which fixed my previous problem) - launched from Battle Net and it loaded straight away.
I have got the same issue…
Still cannot login after 8 hours…
see nothing for blizz as usual
update, just installed classic and that launches fine
same here tried all i can think
My launcher says it wants me to update, but when I try to update I get “Whoops, look like something broke, give it another try” and an OK button - every time. Wow won’t launch on its own because the update tries again via battle.net. Most peculiar, I’ve never seen this before. All was working beuatifully this afternoon so I am peeved.

Having the same issue. Done all in my power. Driver Update. Fresh installs. Firewall exceptions. Trying compability modes. Admin runs.
And nothing.

I’ve been sat here at the PC since 10am and now its 9pm. Repair files = Did NOT work, Uninstall Game and Reinstall game (this was most of my day) = Did NOT work. Also done all the other tricks mentioned above. I am utterly out of ideas and could not be more FRUSTRATED especially as this is my day off work to enjoy the new content. Have not even been able to see a second. CLASSIC WORKS PERFECT! WTF! Blizzard…I expect this to be resolved by tomorrow or you can refund me game time…

Have the exact same issue I reinstalled the game and the b net launcher and I’ve checked firewalls and etc it worked before but servers said incompatible so I tried scan and repair and it did not work reminds me of the same issue I never got to play the last part of the expansion of BFA
Same issue under Linux, so unrelated to Windows security/antivirus as some people said notably on US forum.
Switching Wine from Stagging to GE-Proton solved it, after trying basically everything else except full reinstall.
Won’t help windowsians much, as they can do nothing similar except reinstalling Windows, but could at least help other Linux players.
same here tried everything. classic works fine. reinstalled full game plus BN deleted files and reinstalled nothing
. my day off to, been here all day. not good enough and not even a response from blizzard
