Game Performance in Raids

Issue
In Raids my FPS are dropping really low. It’s not about the FPS it’s about feeling like a delay. As Frostmage, if I have to cast 5x Ice Lance in order to really throw a single one you can imagine how this can screw up Rotations badly.

I record every Raid. I could upload clips (if needed) to show FPS/Latency. My Latency was around 18-21ms the whole Raid-Evening. Open World and Dungeons (Mythic+) are fine.

Weird thing for me though is that CPU+GPU+RAM is not anywhere near high loads of usage.

Is there any “bad” World of Warcraft Setting I don’t know about?

  • MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 3080
  • 32 GB 3600 MHz DDR4
  • Playing on an FHD 144Hz Monitor

I believe it’s an WoW issue. Maybe it’s not that performant I don’t know. What I can see is that neither CPU/GPU/RAM is anywhere near 50% usage. So I can’t imaging having any performance issue on my side.

This issue appears to be even with a full stock UI, so my AddOn’s are not the issue here. Yes, I already repaired/reinstalled WoW and fully reset my UI. Remember in M+ everything is running perfectly fine.

Some people say I’m crazy but I’m really sensitive to FPS. It’s not about the number but it’s about the feeling and if I’m used to play on 144 FPS on average sure I do have a hard time playing on 50 FPS while in a raid where I’m supposed to be most effective.

Another thought might be SpellQueue. My SpellQueue is on 200. Like I said, it’s not about the FPS as a number, for me it’s about the feeling and this laggy-ness on a Boss Pull makes it alsmost impossible to 100% play the rotation.

The game not use all of ur CPU Cores, she is still in 20th santury. For that u have this droping of FPS and lagging

What’s your in/out of raid FPS?

Can you go to Karazan TBC and pull all trash mob as shown below and measure your FPS?:

This is a good repeatable way to benchmark combat.

“Preformatted text” on links will allow posting it.

Your setup should be more than enough to handle mass actor combat / raids. If the FPS drops a lot then something is not as usual. If average/1% low FPS are much lower then it’s something local. If they are high but there is a delay/lag then it could be network related, like path to Blizz servers.

Sorry for answering late. Floodings and a lot of stuff to do here

I mean sure I could do that. Open World FPS is around 140/160. I’ll see if I can do that within the next days.

Currently I found another Frostmage who got the same issues in SoD which is playing on an almost stock UI. It’s hard to believe based on the Benchmark average 100 FPS but im clipping way to many spells.

Seems fine. There are 4 dips to very low framerate on the chart. What was happening when this happened?

Background FPS Fixed on 30 and I assume I tabbed out the game.

Update:
I just had an discussion with a Guildmate and a good way to describe what’s going on and what the issue is is World Bosses. Usually on World Bosses you got like a huge delay, right?

The same issue appears for me on Boss-Pulls/BL Situations. Not as bad as on World Bosses, but its pretty much the same feeling. Outside the Raid in M+ this only a appears rarely and in a way less delayed way.

Similar issue here … the game itself seems a lit laggy since 9.1 hit (possibly the influx of players back into the game, don’t know). Sanctum immediately sees a FPS drop / latency increase… but the worst is the Hungering Mists part of Taragrue. My FPS drops down to 10 - 12 as soon as the mist effect starts.

So I still have not clue what is going on. I used LFR isntead of Kahrazan for now to “bench” some real scenarios. Default UI after repair and full reset was fine. I was like okay, lets get a WF-Raiders UI and see what happens. FPS dropped. Then I disabled ALL Addons so I had a second Benchmark which I could compare to the Benchmark earlier the day. The Stock UI had worse Performance later the day around 2 PM then it did around 11.30 PM.

Long story short, it doesn’t make any sense to me. I stick to an almost stock UI and I isntalled 1 AddOn at a time and run LFR after each AddOn is setup. If once the FPS Drops or the feeling for delay is getting bigger then I just unisntalled the last added and try again until I got a Raid Interface which is as minimalistic as possible but as helpful as possible.

The game is still very much single-threaded and your cpu is one of the best in this aspect afaik.
Beyond that, it’s just the engine not being able to handle what’s going on. It’s a known limitation, one we’ve waited years for them to fix.

I just a 3 hour SoD HC Raid.

Every 2nd/3rd Flurry I had those delays/lags whatever to call this and I missed Winter’s Chill. I can’t play like this. For the last couple Tried I disables ALL AddOns and went on Graphics Preset 5.

I can’t play the game like this. WT is going on…

Hello,
Last night I also noticed this issue.
My system is pretty powerfull I would say.
I got a 5900x clocked @ 4.8ghz with custom water cooling and a MSI 3080ti (I’m playing on QHD tho).

Before any pull I had 140 average FPS.
During the fight I had around 40 FPS.

I was streaming to twitch but even turned it off (my FPS didn’t improve).
Tried even lowering everything to min settings and only got to 50FPS.

Any success? I understand getting a freeze when casting Salvation (renew, prayer of mending, salvation, echo of light animation on every raid member + immediate PoM jump to other targers), but I’m struggling every day harder with SoD. I have 6700k, 980Ti, 32GB ram and SSDs, even nvme one. Nothing seems to help, even playing without any addons… Worse moments are when heroism is used, especially timewarp animation.
I’m pretty sure that spell animations are causing this. On Mor’geth, before joining party - 100-140 FPS. Joining party reduces it to 50-80 (playable). The moment boss is pulled and people cast anything it drops to 15-25, during heroism it’s usually 5-15…
