Game size has massively increased

I was wondering why all of a sudden my game was stuttering and disconnecting.

Turned out that it was due to my dedicated WoW SSD being full. The game is now over 100GB (with only a few addons) which means i can no longer hold it on my dedicated SSD and have had to move it to a slower drive.

I note the SSD requirements on WoW system have now been changed to 128GB of needed space. Can wow file sized look at being reduced before its the only thing i can have on my PC?

Cheapest ~500 GB SSDs are around 30 euros. I suggest you get one (or preferrably least 1 TB one for about 60 euros) as there is no way you are able to fit OS and WoW on a ~100 GB drive.

Given we are now on the tenth expansion (counting WOW Vanilla as 1) it’s hard to see how you would reasonably expect the size of the game to be smaller.

They sometimes improve things over patches but its unlikely that it will get smaller by much. Each expansion will bring additional content and it will be unavoidable that it takes extra space.

2 decade old games sadly do that, sadly it will likely only get wider unless they start severely condensing things, but unsure how viable that really is

Yeah, it’s been getting a bit ridiculous, but mine is actually only 87.7 GB somehow. I recently reinstalled the entire game so that may be why.

Still, things coule be worse. Look at ARK: Survival Evolved with its 275 GB size requirement. That’s like half of an SSD for most people, lol.

The only way to significantly reduce disk drive space would be to remove a large part of the old content. Imo this should never happen and new players can experience old content if they wish. Understand games get bigger and bigger. I think WOW has quite good amount of content per GB ratio.
