"Gap-closer" GPU

Hey guys and gals!

I would like to ask a quick question.

My current setup is:

cpu: i5-8500 3.0 Ghz (6core 6 thread)
gpu: gtx 1050 ti 4gb vram
ram: 16 gb

Is it worth to upgrade to a gtx 1650 super oc 4gb vram to conveninetly play Shadowlands in 1080p with medium like settings? I do not wish to spend a fortune on a gpu and the gtx 1660 super is kinda out of the budget too.

So i need a gap-closer solution because in BFA the gtx 1050 ti is running out of juice and I am kinda scared with the announced Shadowlands recommended specs.

Thanks!

Look for used RX 580/480 - this would be most efficient option on a low price if you can find one locally. Sometimes there is still larger stock of used GTX 1070 and up too. If that’s not available then those new cards are the only option, although 1650 is bit low for a new card.

Thanks for the insight. To speak the truth I am not very keen on using second hand parts (bad experience from the past). So I guess I’ll save up a bit more and wait until the end of the year hoping for a good black friday or holiday sale and buy a better gpu. Maybe a 1660ti or RX 5600 XT.

Until then the 1050ti should suffice.

Cheers.

This can be sooner when stock of older cards will be cleared when Nvidia releases 3060 and then lower models and same for AMD release.

True enough.

Your 1050Ti should be able to reach 60 FPS on settings 4-5 in Bfa and Shadowlands, because my old GTX 970 can still do 7+ just fine.

Please wait until Shadowlands or at least the prepatch is released and see how WoW runs then. It is completely impossible to estimate how the game will run on your PC so anything people here have said is pointless.
Since you clearly don’t want to spend too much money this is the best way for you. If SL comes out and you feel like you need an upgrade come back here and ask again. Then people will also have an idea whether those cards can run it or not. GPU pricecs at the moment are also going down so if you wait a little it’ll be cheaper later.

Beta server, do you play it?
I tried both my old and new system on the beta.
Performance will not change by a significant degreee when it goes live.
That i can tell you from many expansion betas i have tried so far.

Also testing the prepatch does not make any sense since it is still old content and does not include the new zones which are more taxing on the hardware than bfa zones now.

Like i said above, people have an idea right now.
Shadowlands will be out in less than 6 weeks, only fine tuning will take place till then and finalizing the ingame cutscenes as usual.
