Who else feels that it’s time that the whole Garrison system gets an overhaul/re-work, or future content could include a whole town dedicated to player-owned housing, which could be instanced and you could own a house nearby other players, at least 10-40 in the entire town?
You would be able to decorate your house, and they could add (completely optional) cosmetic rewards to content, such as “Killing this boss has a chance to drop green wallpaper.” or something along those lines.
There’s so much potential, and as nice as garrisons may be for some, let’s just admit that it didn’t work out as well as most expected.
Aslong said houses include servants, gaurds, and the general feeling of being a rich noble sure.
Also race based buildings.
I really hate the human building being shoved down my trought.
I am playing the master race.
Give me kaldorei buildings and servants!!!
I’m more in favour of the instanced standalone kind of variety of player housing. I hate the whole land battle, we’ve run out of space, no more housing available kind of scenario.
I’ve not played it for years but RIFT had a great system where you could buy various plots in set locations, some had a shell already and others were just land you could do what you wanted to. The tools to customise were a bit rudimentary and could have done with improvement, some did amazing stuff though.
You could said your home open to friends or even strangers for public viewings/visits.
I would love my own proper home that I could customise how I see fit, there could be all sorts of things to gather in the game towards it.
Oh, me too, that’s not what I was proposing/suggesting though! Instanced/phasing technology would have to make it so that players could own the same house in the town if they wanted to, but for a player to enter a friend’s house, they could type their name in (like on OSRS) to get into their phased house, but the downside is that you would all have default-looking exteriors. Hmm… it is a bit complex now that I think about it. I know FFX has their own player-housing system like that, or something.
I’ve not played RIFT but that does sound interesting. I just feel that WoW has always been missing a proper housing system.
The dream.
(Since I can’t make a new reply I will have to reply on this post)
Erm, I personally wouldn’t like a repeat of WoD, but if we can take the good things out of bad things, then I would say that Garrisons were a good concept to take out of WoD. It could have been executed so much better though.
I think ESO has quite nice player housing. Those buildings are scattered throughout the zones, you can actually see and visit them while leveling or just passing by. Something like that would be cool in WoW too. Think about your favorite zone in WoW and actually having a player housing there.
I like how ESO does it, and I’m a big fan of housing works there (even though it has it’s kinks and bugs, of course). The houses are instanced, the furniture is crafted by the players, you can also win some trophies from content, then you can place the items anywhere you want in the house. The lights can be switched on and off, you can sit in chairs, and can put pets, mounts and assistants on the house.
Every race in game has a small, medium and large house, then there are extra special places. There are also plots of land only, the next one coming out, for instance, is a giant meadow.
Houses are distributed through the different zones and fit the culture they are part of, so, if you wanted say a dark elf home, you would have to choose a home in a dark elf city or region (although sometimes I do wish the neighbourhood was better ).
WoW doesn’t have to copy this system exactly, but the most important aspects for me are homes with racial identities, ideally in the zones belonging to that race, so a house in Silvermoon for blood elves for example, or a house in Loch Modan for dwarves. And make the housing items craftable, which in turn would make professions more relevant.
Whatever the devs decide to do, I do hope we will get housing in the future
Ah, I quit ESO before they added housing in, but I did see how some of them looked and I agree, they’re great. Some of them were really expensive too! like millions of gold or something.
Imagine if WoW had a similar system, that would be awesome, although personally I’d hope that they weren’t centred around just gold, like “Pay 50,000 gold for this.” and more centred around doing related activities or content for the interior and rooms, etc. Maybe the base house and rooms could cost gold, but yeah, just spit-balling ideas.
Would be great if they add housing system… then they could also add “housing styles” in the ingame shop… for example elvish style, draenei style, human style and so on that lets you change your human house into a stylish draeni spacestation ^^
I definately want housing but please don’t mention word garrison when talking about housing. Totally different thing!
What i would like:
furnishable and moddable lot/house/apartment (depending of location, from city apartments to little houses on countryside)
furnishing and other decos being made by professions AND as rare drops all around the world (so not like from dungeon bosses)… thinking of dwarf npcs having small chance to drop dwarf style decos, orc npcs orc style and so on
not gold sink or time gated, but old fashioned grindable content (kill things around the world and collect profession mats for decos and furnishings, collect upgrade ingredients for getting larger place etc.)
has to be instanced so everyone can have which ever place they wish, but visitable by giving permissions to friends or setting the house free to visit (via listings)
fully cosmetic only, no growing real herbs or such, but growing decorative plants and trees
there should be nothing there that you benefit from in the game, so no one would feel it’s mandotory to have (just entertainment)
I really liked my garrison but it could have used more customisation. Proper player housing would be great, especially if we can bring people into our houses to show them off. With the current trend though they’d likely lock everything, beyond the basic hovel, behind mythics. It would also need to offer variety. As an Orc, I don’t want to be stuck with 10 different spike versions and several designs of dead animal skin flooring or wall art as my only decor choices.
There’s a new house that came with the latest ESO xpac that works like that. First room is unlocked by completing the main questline, second room you unlock by doing the DLC dungeons, and there are still more rooms to unlock tbd.
Despite liking the system of buying houses for gold in ESO, I think tying houses to content is also a good system. Besides, gold is much easier to come by than in WoW. I think I made around 800k in my first month of trading there. I don’t think I’ve made that much gold in all the years I’ve played WoW…and I have been playing since MoP
I’d like it i’d even make it all Argent crusade theme. And maybe a bit druidism aswell and kirion’tor aswell And i’d get a nice swimming pool doing the hot summer. And a sauna at the winter. And a nice big yeard. For us to play games at. And an anti evil aura so no bad sylvanas people can come in and ruin it like here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQNwBt8ZNlw
