GDKP gear requirements

So I am fully aware that I am extremely late for the TBC party, prepatch releasing in a few days and all. My concern is mainly focused around WOTLK.

To those who have experianced GDKPs in “newly” released content, what were the gear requirements to join ? Does someone need to be overgearing the content to join those runs or is the gear requirements lower than that.

And yes I know that you can join as a buyer but seeing the prices going now for some items I don’t think I will ever have that kind of gold…not without farming for tens or even hundreds of hours just for 2-3 Items. I’d prefer to just be able to join by just getting as much of my pre-bis I can.

Also i know i can just join a guild, but at least at this point in time all guilds recruiting seem to be on the hardcore side, demanding 2 alts for split runs, and that is something I am definetly not interested in.

I appreciate taking your time to read this.

If you’re there to buy gear, you can be heavily undergeared. If you’re there as a ‘pumper’, as a way to earn gold, you pretty much have to be bis geared for whatever the current phase is

Why exactly you want to join GDKP ?
For money? You will need gear.
For gear? You will need money.
I am kinda missing the reason from your post …

Most of the time you will need BiS, or at least higher gear than what tier you are trying to get into … something like S3 weapons, BoEs from auction house, stuff from professions + some stuff on T4 level, to get into T4 level content, instead of having T6/SWP gear …

Some runs might be ok with some lower gear, if they are performance based, you will simply get only very little gold or no gold at all …

I am new to classic. I have no gold to speak of. Considering the SWP prices for items, I’d say it’s a good bet to guess Nax gear will be even more expensive as gold increases. Most gold farm runs, even the best of them from what i’ve seen net you around 400-500g per hour. Most tier set pieces on SWP go for 10k from what i’ve seen. So let’s say you need to have mostly BiS gear that’s around 40-60k gold, or 120 hours of farming. That is in no way something I am interested in, but as things stand this seems to be the only option if I want to raid. The purpose of this post is exactly to ask if this is the case or not.

Do heroics to get badge gear, thats like T6 level, join pugs mag/gruul (you can always sneak you way in even with trash gear) and make your own early raids especially for KZ, but even ZA can be done with a little bit of ingenuity …

And play tank/heal … tanks are basically gods when it comes to custom groups or raids, noone will trashtalk you in ZA if you tank it yourself …
And healers can heal even Hyjal with basic blue/epic gear and are always wanted …

Honestly just farm honor, in like a week you can buy Season 4 gear for honor and some of it is as good as or better than T6. There is no point in trying to do the whole TBC gear grind at this point only to replace most of it in a couple of weeks.

In a new content GDKP, everyone is pretty much expected to bid on items as they are obviously upgrades. In TBC, you wouldn’t get pure buyers in the first couple of weeks of new content, as the raid would need good geared players to make sure they actually clear the content (not clearing content is bad for business). Then, they start adding buyers.

You will probably need to be almost full pre-raid BIS with full enchants and professions for ph1 wotlk GDKPs, as a non buyer. Especially if the raids are way too easy so pure buyers get spots from start (you are supposed to carry them).

Class choice plays a big part as well. I managed to make tons of gold on my degen resto shaman in TBC, by pressing chain heal and lust, especially at start, before half the server rerolled to shaman. On the contrary, this boomkin got declined many times from GDKPs because, you know, you only need 1 in the raid (and zero in sunwell).

Is paladin a good class for ph1 GDKPs as carry? Maybe as holy i’d say, as the meta videos give holy paladins 2 spots in the raid. Prot is a must as well of course, but you will be expected to be experienced, which looks like you are not. As for ret, I guess that will be a buyer spot 24/7 and you won’t be needed as carry.

Detailed answer thank you very much. So in the end do you think it will if Wotlk Raiding will be doable for a more casual play (More in terms of hours, not casual as in no preparation). I will be playing a holy palading btw.

Most tier set pieces on SWP go for 10k from what i’ve seen. So let’s say you need to have mostly BiS gear that’s around 40-60k gold

Prices are not that insane (at the release of sunwell they were like that, but not anymore) , i geared my alt prot paladin in firemaw for about 6-7k , ofc not full bis but who cares.

In pyrewood where my mage is it costed me about 10k to get full t6 and t5 , prices here are like 500-1000g per token , 200-300g offset items, the most expensive item ive bought was zhar doom which costed me 5k gold. Keep in mind each raid i spend 2-3k gold i get back 1300-1800g so in the end i got my gold back , now im strictly running it as a booster and im on profit now. Sunwell prices used to be 200g per token but now its 1k minimum , sunwell items go for 3-4k max at the moment.

At the start of lich king i expect the prices of items to be insane as people stock pilled on tons of gold , multiple gold caps. To join a gdkp at a release of new content you gotta bring some value to the raid , either with fully pre raid bis + proffs + a proof you are skilled player OR deep pockets to inflate the pot.

Imo at the start it will be hard to find a spot in gdkp run because people will run gdkps with already know rosters , same people that used to raid in tbc will raid in wotlk too. You gotta make yourself know and show that you are reliable player from now.

Then you seen something wrong. Most go for 2-5k and thats about it this late in the tier.

Depends … DGKP is quite similar to how a guild works, except you’re not required to maintain attendance

  • For newly released content there will be no overgearing of course. There may be gear requirements to have last tier’s gear level (i.e. Sunwell GDKP with 5 boosties and everyone else in BT/Hyjal gear won’t really work).
  • After content gets older you can be either a pumper (expected to pump and no gear needs from the raid), semi-pump (a lesser pumper that will buy an item here and there if it drops) or a buyer (fresh char that is pretty much expected to buy most things as they’re getting boosted)

As long as you have the previous tier’s gear level, you can join new content GDKP without any problem as long as you can spare some gold in the event that you win a bid (you can bid and just drop when others outbid you - very likely)
The hardest might be have previous tier’s level when many people are overgearing current content (kind of like sunwell is now, most pumpers are decked and you’re expected to buy stuff)

Just join a guild and be nice and know your class and the gear will come.

As the one who saw like 5 guilds disband after officers getting geared, heavy loot council scam in 5 others and 5 more guilds with inability to clear 15 years old content like sunwell I suggest to avoid classic guilds like plague. All that happened during p3-p5 of classic tbc btw. Decent guilds might be needed if you want to clear ulduar hardmodes like firefighter, zero lights, immortal toc, lich hm, otherwise it’s huge waste of time and self harming by dealing with insane amount of in-guild clique scam. Wow guilds are not the same thing as it was during tbc-wrath retail, 99% of them are created to scam random newcomers for loot.

Once pre-patch hits next Tuesday you will be able to farm S4 gear very rapidly that will last you almost all the way to lv80.

So I’d say you better save gold and money, start farming honor now(do both terrokar and helfire dailies) as well as BG’s. Also don’t be afraid of lower honor gain rates currently, next week with pre-patch it will more than double and will make you just as powerful as raid geared.
