People need to stop with the Gear Score (GS) checks. I don’t understand why this is a big thing and tbh it’s extremely inaccurate. With the focus on GS from a lot of people, I downloaded the addon to give it a try myself.
I was extremely lucky yesterday getting the epic staff from Lord Kelris. Before that, I had the Staff of Westfall. I downloaded the GS addon to see the difference and I lost, not kidding, -49 GS by equip the epic staff compared to Staff of Westfall. I lost -15 GS from switching bad waist from the turtle boss compared to the Invoker Chord which is a lot better.
I hope this gives a thought to those GS-ppl that it’s not even close to accurate and a total waste of making groups out of a “score” system that has been a thing to try make it into some retail comparison of “how good people are”. And it brings a bad taste to the classic WoW. This post won’t help, I’m sure of it, but hopefully can give one person or a few a thought before adding GS on endgame into their “check lists”.

It is a convenient way for people without knowledge to - in theory - make sure everyone they invite has equal or in most cases better gear than they have. As you pointed out this doesn’t actually work in vanilla, doesn’t work all that well in Wrath either.
However you can learn a lot from the LFM message. Someone asking for GS, link cheevo and all that, is typically not a great player. Look up their logs and if they even have any you’ll see they’re almost always bad.

The PuG world will always use subpar trends to attrmpt to “ensure success”. Its the pitfalls of pugging im afraid.

It’s not accurate but it helps to determine wether the person is in white/Westfall gear or not. If you want run BFD but your GS is basically around 100 - it’s a no.
For anything else it’s irrelevant.
Trade chat pugs are typically not a good time, due to many reasons. Raiding with a guild or at least a steady pug is the only way to actually enjoy the content.

But who wants to commit to raid shedules for just a BFD entry raid? imo I just prefer to log on and smash a raid out when I want then log off
Can’t have it all. Personally I prefer playing with people I like.
People actually want people to have raid items equipped or they are not “allowed” to come into the raid… xD xD xD
“…because I do not want bad equipped people to roll on the gear”.
Yeah well…

It’s wrath babies that are using it, have some compassion, they are clueless.
What?! This green open world drop is better than a Raid epic? Can’t be, the Gearscore is lower!!!11

Yea the Logic of These people is insane
thank god i dont have to See These people irl
Guys just avoid people who ask GS for a lvl 25 “raid”. The best thing is when I see in general people that spam “lfm bfd chill and fun run” , this is what it should be all about.
Because SoD is full of retail and wrath players right now. I’m trying to live in a purple world and hope that most of these people wont make it to 60 just because it gets more time consuming and harder to level up + there will be new content in retail released. Only thing I’m scared of is actual vanilla people learning from these guys and start using GS as well, then it will probably get worse. So the thing we can do right now is just don’t join any raid that requires GS. It’s extremely dumb, its 100 times better to just ask “hey, what runes are you gonna use in the raid” and you will distinguish good from bad players way better than GS. But I know… it takes effort and knowledge of the other classes, so they just use GS
Anyone who ever played Vanilla knows ilvl is close to useless.

I play wow since vanilla and I play retail as well.
Coming to SoD for me is the best wow experience I had in years. I don’t think that old school retail players are sweating over GS in sod. They just came for the change of pace and the social aspect that retail doesn’t have anymore. At least for me this is the case
I mean… people who played Vanilla didn’t use do to GDKP every week as well, but hey, here we are now. And GDKPs weren’t invented now, they we a thing in original vanilla as well, just way less popular, so nothing really surprises me anymore

I like the GDKP system, I just don’t like the gold buying meta it creates.
I would raid with a GDKP system if I had any confidence in Blizzard that gold buyers get banned, but I do not, so I don’t.
I still like it in theory.
