Tier Set-Bonuses are very important for all classes in Season 2, both in PvE and PvP.
Most serious PvE-only players have 4 pieces of Set-Gear and full Epic quality gear by now (raiding, m+ (which is unlimited) and Great Vault).
Meanwhile, people who solely PvP are running around with 1 or 2 Tier Set-Pieces (IF they were lucky that they got Tier-Gear from the Great Vault) since there are no Tier drops, there is no option to buy Tier-Gear or to craft it via a Catalyst mechanic in PvP. Currently, if you are unlucky, you will have 1 piece of Tier-Gear (for reaching 1.6 CR) for months since the only place Tier drops from PvP is the Great Vault.
There is no reason why Tier-Gear is being gate-kept this way in PvP and why the Catalyst is introduced so unbelievably late in the season, especially because Tier Set-Bonus are so important for all classes and having or not-having the 2/4 Set-Bonus makes a huge difference. The Catalyst should have been out already for PvP, but apparently we have to wait until the midst of June to finally craft our first Tier-Piece, which is so late it’s mind-boggling, especially if you compare it to the acquisition via PvE-content.
In addition, though a much more minor point, while serious PvE players have full Epic gear by now, players who only PvP run around in half Blue/half Epic gear since the Conquest Point cap is super low. What’s more is that the best item-level you can receive from PvP, granted IF you are one of the best 0.1% of players (2.4+ CR), is 434 (= 9/9 Elite), which is literally, item-leve wise, worse than gear you can get (or upgrade) from HEROIC raiding, and, on top of that, has Versatility as a main stat on every piece. A fact that’s not important for PvP-scenarios (therefore a minor issue) , but nevertheless important for branching out to PvE-content.
Tier set bonuses are nerfed by 50% in PvP and the majority of them doesnt give versa.
PvE players being fully epic geared doesn’t mean much in PvP as PvE gear has no scaling, they still need the trinket bonus and even honor PvP gear scales up to a rather high ilvl that is not that easy to obtain in PvE, not to mention the stat differences, as not many classes need versa in PvE for instance
In case you didn’t notice PvP isn’t their main area of focus and most likely never will be at this point.
You are correct, however, the Tier Set-Bonus, be it damage increase, mana return etc., is highly noticeable. And as you know, the Versatility on Tier Set-Pieces differs from class to class, for example DH has 2 pieces with Versatility on it, while for example Warrior has 3. That being said, as you’ve noticed I was referring, with regards to Versatility on Gear, to PvP Gear-Pieces that are not necessarily Tier-Pieces but normal Gear-Pieces that can be acquired strictly from PvP.
I was referring to PvP-Gear being used to branch out to PvE-content, which doing is currently (almost) mandatory in order to acquire Tier-Gear that can then be used for PvP - this isn’t the case the other way around.
Some corrections here on the notion that PvP items are on par with PvE items: the item level of blue PvP gear is 366 (can be upgraded to 392). It scales to 437 in PvP only. The absolute best gear in the game you can get from PvP, if you belong to the 0.1% best players in PvP, is 434 (scales to 450 in PvP only), and therefore lower than the item level of heroic gear (dropped+upgraded = 441), and considerably lower than mythic gear (item level 441 - 450). The difference is, that you don’t have to PvP to get Tier-Pieces, while you (almost) have to do PvE to get Tier-Pieces. That’s because your only source for acquiring the Tier Set-Bonus in PvP is the Great Vault, while PvE has the Great Vault on-top of Tier drops in PvE.
No no, I am aware that the ilvl is for PvP. But it is also gear FROM and FOR PvP.
PvP gear should not be better than PvE gear in PvE.
Same way that PvE gear is absolute garbage in PvP. If you go into an arena with full HC gear, you will still be lower ilvl than someone in full honor gear.
I GET that it can be annoying if you wanna do both PvP and PvE, but if this is the case, you are gonna get gear from doing both, so you just make a PvP set and a PvE set.
The 1 thing I would maybe change, is I would bring back a separate chest/vault for PvP. If you are doing both raiding/mythic+ and PvP, and you get a great item in both, you have to choose between your PvE set and your PvP set, which feels awful. But even then, the vault is still an upgrade from the previous random item in chest.
It’s not (by a considerable margin as I explained). It also should not be, nobody said that it should. I don’t know why you are acting like somebody actually said that.
You are still missing the major point, even after my second explanation, which is the following: (1) you don’t have to PvP to get Tier-Pieces as a solely PvE player, while you (almost) have to do PvE to get Tier-Pieces as a PvP player. That’s because your only source for acquiring the Tier Set-Bonus in PvP is the Great Vault, while PvE has the Great Vault on-top of Tier drops in PvE. (2) Yet, the absolute best gear (0.1%) in the game you get from PvP to do that is far inferior to PvE gear, as I have shown.
Arh okay, I was misunderstanding what you wrote then, my bad.
I think the best option to solve this would be to either 1) have the current conquest pieces from vendor be tier instead, or atleast also provide the option for tier. or 2) introduce the catalyst from the beginning, so that people could atleast make sure that they can convert 1 conquest piece a week to tier.
Hardcore PvPer that also raid to minmax probably have 4 tier set already.
If I just inspect random people in Valdraken lots of them have 4 or 5 tier pieces at 438-442 already. That is between honor and conquest gear iLvL.
Some classes have really strong tier bonuses even at 50% power. So they will definitely have an advantage in the first 8-9 weeks as opposed to Only pvp players.
Garbage design. How would it influence pve if pvp players got the catalyst faster, that gear is much lower ilvl in pve then PvE tier set anyway.
You can get free 437 ish by spamming m16 (if not more, i’m not very aware of the max ilvl for pve).
However, the peak ilvl for PvP gear (Elite) is 434, with versa+stat, which needs elite rank (2400 any lader) in PvP, which as of today, it’s very rare.
Which class uses versa+stat in PvE? Why would a pve player push for 2400 (dealing with the push issues, it is not easy ofc), if he has better options by pushing keys? Everything above 434 would do.
EDIT: I didn’t read that you got a reply like that waay earlier, mb.
Anyway, my opinion is that PvPers should be able to get a piece of tier for PvP more frequently, even if it is ilvl300 in PvE, and 450 in PvP; because right now, even if we do raid, a farmed tier set will be worse than a RNG Vault tierset.
So ye, we need the coin asap, in order to get it and erase the RNG vault factor from our ladder.
