Ok so the pvp have always been the main reason I play this game. I mostly come back atleast once during an expansion and since I started its all been turning more and more of a “you need to graduate in gearing science” before you even attempt it.
Im casual nowdays and I play solo so naturally I came back for the new solo pvp options. I dont want to dive deep in all the convuluted gearing nonsense just to not absolutely suck in pvp.
I can handle 1-2 systems while not having to farm for months to not suck. What are my options?
Ok so this is still fairly simple then. Thats a relief. Ive been watching videos and noone is actually talking about getting gear through pvp. I assumed it was not a thing anymore. So any sidesystems to that. Is a gearpiece itself a work in progress?
You have the option to upgrade PvP gear if you like (8 levels), but upgraded gear only affects the ilvl in PvE.
If, like me, you only really PvP, there’s not much point in upgrading (as your ilvl in PvP is fixed).
I think this PvP gearing system has been received well, as the disparity between min-max is minimal, meaning fairer fights & less time grinding before being able to play.
Well yeah, in addition to buying player crafted PvP gear from the AH, or using personal work orders to use PvP bought emblem Tokens to upgrade crafting gear to increase Ilevel in PvP. Which is of course in addition playing with war mode which gives blood tokens to buy hellbloom gear. Which is of course in addition to doing Spark of Life mechanics that allows you to buy gladiator hellbloom gear if combined with blood tokens. Which of course is in addition to using the great vault to RNG PvP tier sets, which in itself of course is an addition using the revival catalyst to upgrade certain PvP items to PvP tier sets, but not others.
Casual players more than likely don’t worry about the Great Vault so that is one that can be crossed off the list for the OP at least. Buying crafted PvP gear is just a waste of money. You’re better served farming Honor in EBGs to get the vendor gear. Revival Catalyst is hardly rocket science either.
Gearing up for PvP has never been easier. You can even send Honor over to alts to make it even faster.
Just saying for a new player looking to gear, the options are probably overwhelming.
it is confusing, basically you need to plan 8 weeks ahead to figure out what item to get from what mechanic to get your set. Then I’m not even talking about embellishments and figuring out which item enhancements are nerfed in PvP by what kind of percentage.
I agree gearing up is fun and more options are better, allowing every player to pick the path they like. But it can be very confusing to figure out all options, then realizing you made a mistake 3 weeks ago you can’t fix due to caps and weeklies.
Im gonna take away “earn honor and buy gear. DONE!” from this. So if I understand correctly, the min/max extremes are alot smaller than they used to be?
So lets say I get myself into full honor gear. How much of a difference would it be if I go ahed with a min/mix approach (cause it was possible to some extent right?)?
In addition I also agree with what someone said, that more options are fun if the gameplay attached to it is fun. Has to be some way to simplify the process and making it more obvious. Which would also let us focus on the actual gameplay and not the logistical jungle of it all.
Welp depends on how ‘casual’ you want it to be… Hellbloom (glad) gear is Ilevel 486 and unranked conquest gear is Ilevel489, while honor gear is ‘only’ Ilevel 476. It will be quite a noticeable difference, especially when the tier-set bonuses come into play that’s not available on honor gear.
If you’re a casual and want the EZ way, my basic tips are. Save your catalyst upgrade for (heads, legs, chest, hands, shoulders,) on hellbloom (gladiator gear), which require bloody tokens in addition to Trophy of Strife. Trophy of strife is season capped and be back purchased with honor… So you should be able to catch up.
Then use your casual conquest for necklace, rings, because Hellbloom + Trophy of Strife cannot be used to purchase those… From you first BG win (the chest) you should also get a quest to get 2 PvP thropies of conquest that can be used to craft regular items to Ilevel489.
But we might already be getting complicated here. In regards to the hellbloom gear, make sure to purchase the right one from the right vendor. There are two vendors, one sells them with trophy of strife, the other without, you need the ones with trophy of strife with a higher Ilevel.
Oh and be very careful with the revival catalyst, you only get one charge every 2 weeks. so if you mess up on the items you want (upgrading non-tier-bonus pieces), you may need to wait another 8 weeks to give it another shot at the 4-piece bonus.
I thought the change of at least upgrading the PvE Ilevel of your PvP items with flight stones and crests was the right way to go.
I still think that Hellbloom and Hellbloom+ is unnecessary, it makes it needlessly complicated in terms of currency and upgrade. They should just drop Hellbloom or make it purchasable for honor, while you use blood tokens and strife for Hellbloom+ versions (the one with higher pvp ilevel and can be upgraded at catalyst).
Then again, they just started doing that this seasons in response to that flight stone change. So I would not be surprised if by next patch/expansion they will re-combine them again, into just one version.
I’d say the simplest way for you would be tojoin in Epic BG’s to start with, they churn out a lot of honour, especially for a win. Youcan get the full green set in like a day or 2, then it’s the weekly conq grind.
Another quick thing here. Once you max out your honor gear you will continue to earn honor playing BGs etc but have no use for it. You can buy tokens at the honor vendor and send that honor to another toon albeit I think you spend 2500 honor for a 1500 value token.
Point is you can just play your maxed out toon, buy the tokens, then send them to another toon and hey presto: they can be maxed out in honor gear too without playing.
