Gearing in wow is too trivial and boring

What do we have?

  1. Item level with stats: 1 primary stat, and 4 secondary stats. 3 of those secondary stats do the same thing for every class.
  2. One pre-determined tier set
  3. Embellishments on two highly priced crafted pieces, that we make once per season, and never think about again.

There is no sauce in the gearing to spice things up, and swap powers around. It’s just a slow ilvl/stat grind.

WoW feels a bit like an arcade game. We don’t even have elemental resistances… I wish we had interesting power systems like in Diablo 4, where we often change and think about our gear, enchants, tempers, gems, etc.

Gearing is so trivialised, that it just feels like, you get gear for the mog, and that’s it.

The fact that it takes not very long to reach the kind of gear that corresponds to the difficulty of content you do (Veteran, Hero, etc.), and that thereafter you’re only getting tiny incremental stat increases every time you manage to upgrade a piece of gear a couple of item levels is incredibly lame.

It might just be the most boring gear design in any current video game. I struggle to think of any that has reduced its gear design to less than WoW has.

You mean it’s a freaking casino of slot machines and a gold sink.

Final fantasy has even less gear relevance.

cough

FFXIV. It doesn’t even let you use your gear half the time because of arbitrary and extremely dumb ilvl sync.

Let’s stick to talking about the wow gearing, and not if ff14 or wow has worse gearing. Likely both are terribly boring and shouldn’t be a standard. Let’s instead compare wow gearing to rpgs that have great gearing like Monster Hunter World, Path of Exile, Witcher 3, or Diablo IV

Have you ever played this thing called timewalking?

I liked classic gearing better to be fair. I want to loot leather again as a warrior and make other classes seethe.

I wish I’d have to grind 3 sets of resistance gear that fills up my bags along with the 500 stacks of materials that never fit inside my reagent bag/bank.

Yep, at this point if they removed like 10-12 item slots we wouldn’t even notice it mechanically. Just keep Chest, 1 ring, 2 trinkets and Weapon slots. Everything else is just Chest with different budget, or Ring with different budget. They exist only to make Enchanting have any worth, and maybe tier set bonuses.

None of these games are mmorpg

Never played it.

You’d be hard pressed to explain how World of InstanceCraft is an MMORPG these days. Game plays exactly like an ARPG.

Saying DIV has good gearing and itemization must be a joke right?

i wish d4 had more than fricking 6 buttons on your char and much more interesting talent tree. you whine about complexity in one field and ignore lack of it in other, it’s not separate elements, those elements compose the game, just think about that there is a reason why game with 30+ keybinds on one char has less taxing gearing

Many previous versions of wow also had way more interesting gearing than now

I’m only talking about the gearing. I’m not talking abiut the talents. Also, I didn’t “whine” about diablo 4 complexity. I praised it. If wow had as good gearing with the current talents, it’d be very fun.

Since Season 4 after their huge loot rework Diablo 4 has had good gearing, and it’s getting better and better patch by patch.

Yeah exactly, and even the weapon slots are all standardized stat sticks. It’s so lame. They could remove all gear at this point, and scale everything to the same ilvl, it wouldn’t change the game much. That’s not a good thing for a mmorpg.

I do not agree with this but I can respect your opinion. Better gearing ? Sure. Good gearing? No. Not from my pov at least. I will give it the fact that , as bad as it is, it’s more than what we have in wow, that much is true.

I mean Diablo 4 has other issues like the scaling of content or bad boss fight design, but the gearing itself and how their systems work is awesome. Gotta separate the wheat from the chaff. I’m only referring to this aspect in isolation.

Yeah I know what you are referring to. I am still not a fan, but as I said before, I can respect your opinion regarding the issue as long as you can respect mine.
Agree to disagree kind of situation.

So you want Hit rating and ARP back as stats then?

WOD - gearing is boring we have only set items and basic trinkets
Legion - it takes too long to level up you artifact and legendary items have too much RNG
BFA - too much borrowed powers with azerite gear and corrupted items and neck
Shadowlands - gearing and covenant abilities are borring
DF and TWW - gearing is boring we have only set items and basic trinkets

Like what would you do? Give us more RNG gear so people wold cry that they can’t drop them? Give us milion smll procs like azerite items? New skill tree on item like HOA so people would cry that they need to farm pvp for 0.5% more dps?

Only boring thing is one Myth track gear per week from m+. You have to play raids if you want best gear in normal pace.
