It doesn’t matter, gearscore doesn’t account for it and gearscore is everywhere right now.
Sign up for a raid in the LFG tool and the opening line anyone tosses at you is “gs?”.
People have so much gold this time that they can just buy every BOE on the AH upgrading their GS without even going to any raid/dungeon.
Terrible addon. All it did was give players who don’t know how to gear properly a number to hide behind. People want to boil everything down to a meta and numbers, which just allows people who know how to use google but never developed skill to fly under the radar.
And what did you expect? That magically people will invite anyone, without looking at their score? Ofc they will look for highest number when they invite someone (ilvl, gearscore, etc.)
Last night i saw ppl asking 3600 GS and achieve naxx 10/25 for naxx 25, aint this first week??
My paladin has 3360 GS and most items are ilvl 200, exept for pre bis libram that is 133 ilvl. I need 213 items from 25 man to get 3600… right??

This is a very modern / retail issue. Mainly because it became so popular in retail to not give a damn a armor and just use gearscore as the basis, which is terrible with randomized stats on gear. In BfA I literally use to just equip the highest Itemscore armor I got even if the secondary stats did nothing for me because I could get into raids through the group finder.
I know the Gearscore addons were around in Wrath but it wasn’t as much of an issue as not many people pugged. Most people where in a guild raiding 1/2/3 times a week with the same team.
So my advice, screw pugs, get in a guild and play it old school. Yeah you might end up in a team that is slow progressing through a raid, but at least you will raid and have fun.

This very issue literally started in WotLK.
Gearscore originated in WotLK.
And yes, back then you virtually needed ICC Heroic 25 man loot to get invited to a 10 man normal ICC as well.

Indeed, the difference today is that gearscore was strictly item level. Raider IO shows in game progress of M+ key completions and raid progress. One measures what you’re wearing and one measures what you’ve done in game. Both can be faked, however.

In my experience, as I did heroic raiding back inte day, gearscore and DKP were very much present.
Today, we have WCL. Organized raids will most likely go after experience and parses that matter. That’s how people have excluded others from pugs and such in Classic and TBCC.
I guess I just lived in a different sphere to the rest of you. I just looked for a guild that raided 2 times a week, said hey, joined up. Signe dup the raids and did it. I was raiding HC 25man ICC back in wrath, it may as been later on than the hardcore raider who did it 3/4 times a week, but we got there and it just never bothered me.
It was mostly an alt thing for most of us, which didn’t exactly help matters

On thekal there is no problem, for raid or dungeons. You go in tool sign up and some minutes later you get inved. Easy as that.
Naxx25 is so easy that one of our guild’s 10man teams mistakenly left it on 25man and didn’t realise until we were struggling a bit on Patch. Naxx is just a gear fountain.

I don’t instantly alt-tab from WoW to forum after one disappointment to make thread about how awful everything is.
But you’ll never learn. Your idea of perfect gameplay is conveyor belt-like sitting in queue until UI teleport you from 1-80 through dungeons, then to 200 ilvl in heroic dungeons then through Raid Finder to put you with randoms in Naxx 10, then Naxx 25. Wait, that would still inculde minimal social interaction… scratch that, players are replaced by super-smart bots which never judge you.
