I’ve seen a lot of posts asking to port an addon like GearScore from Wotlk, so here i am. Im newbie in WoW addon development, but i tried to do that. Addon is available on curse and wowinterface (Name: GearScore TBC). Feel free to feedback.
GearScoreLite Classic Fix for The Burning Crusade Classic
Assists in evaluating a Characters preparedness for Instances and Raids. This addon adds a weighted value for each item a player has equipped based on Item Level. For example, Chest pieces give more Gear Score than Rings because they have more Stats. The combined Score is listed in the Players Character and Inspection Windows and in Mouse Over Tooltips both for Items and Players.
Information
Chat command is “/gs”
This is an updated version of the original addon for use in TBC Classic. Due to Blizzard’s changes in the WoW API you need to mouse over the player without fading tooltip for 3 seconds to get a GearScore + Itemlevel reading in the tooltip. If you require the information faster just inspect a player, a new feature will score the target’s gear in the inspection window.
GearScore its just a tool, not your way to play!
With the release of The Burning Crusade Classic, many players will be interested in farming as much PvE content as they can with the Normal/Heroic BC Dungeons and even raids when available, and we all want to get through them cleanly and without any trouble and the first step is forming the group, GearScore is the go-to tool to use when you want a quick and accurate assessment of all of your potential candidates. GearScore should be used as a guideline, Please do not use it as a reason to be toxic to undergeared/newer/boosted characters.

Gearscore have always been a horible idea, we saw it in wrath and it would be even worse for tbc, even with “its just a tool” people will not just use it as a tool, DST will need to ether have a hughe gear score makeing it something everyone who is pugging want (even mages) or it will give missleading gearscore that is to low for how powerfull it is. We saw warriors with random spell power rings and trinkets in wrath and we will see it again in tbc if gearscore becomes the standard and it always leads to toxisity towards lower geared players (if not toxicity to a vicisious circle where they cant get into pugs becouse they dont have high enough gs and the only way for them to get higher gs is to pug so they are stuck)

I guess its okay to get good geared in dungeons before going to Karazhan or another raid. So GearScore will help to determine quality of player quickly
While I do agree that gearscore helped determining the overall gear of a player quickly, it still was a huge mistake in Wrath onwards. A Raidleader who has no time determining the gear of a raider & cannot distuingish between someone who plays for iLvL or someone who actually wears BIS with enchants/gems shouldn’t raidlead at all.
It works in Retail to a ‘degree’ because iLVL > everything else in the most cases, this doesn’t apply to TBC though.
Then again I thank you for your contribution, was just never my cup of tea.

GearScore is another minmaxx bullcrap, get it out of my game. With this addon your identity is your gear, not you as a character.
Don’t want it, don’t need it.

I’m theory I understand the good intentions of the addon.
In most cases I simply don’t believe it’ll be used correctly. Therefore, I won’t be using it and I don’t believe it has a purpose in TBC.

There is an extremely simple solution for that; implement stat and set bonus weights per role. Even one with decent values would be good enough for this to be equivalent to avg ilvl of later expansions.
Dude, gearscore is horrible for minmaxing, it doesnt show actual power of items, just points based on the item level.
Nice try blaming anything you dont like on minmaxing

Gearscore works in retail due to item level is king. A item with perfect secondary stats that is lower Ilevel vs a item with bad secondary stats but higher Ilevel. The latter tends to be better due to how heavy budgeted Int/Str/Agi is.
Gearscore will be bad in older wow titles due to this.

There is one use to an addon like this: Every time you see a GS requirement for a party/raid you have a very clear red flag right there. Avoid shuch parties/raids and you will be fine.

As funny quick gear check why not. It is problem only when people become obsessed with it. It is not accurate anyway, some stuff like Gruul trinket will have lower score yet it will be good in later seasons too…

So gearscore defines a good player? not just a lucky player or even a boosted one? in all seriousness, gearscore is what ruined WotLK pugging, I hope that addon gets banned.

NO!
We don’t need GearScore for BC. It will ruin the game. It’s exactly why I run away from retail.
Go away, please.

There are other addons that give a kind of ilvl too. I have numbers on my UI when I look at the character tab, but I have no idea what addon is causing it because I’m not really bothered
I can’t see other people’s though so I guess that’s where GS would come in. It was a pain in Wrath when it came in.
yeah i cant wait for gearscore, equipping some trash pieces with int on a warrior to boost gearscore.
When i came into wotlk after tbc the whole gearscore thing was a HUGE turnoff for me.

gearscore reminds me of motorcycles.
People can have a fast motorcycle and fail miserably, in the meanwhile I’m driving a slow moped and wave at them as I pass them while they’re laying in the grass.
Gearscore is not everything and you’re a fool if you think it is.

nah it determines the sum total of their gear worth, not the worth of the player themselves unfortunately.

Okay, can you tell me another way to get the worth?
their logs are a better way of determining how good they are even, gear dosnt make a player better or worse than anyone els it just determins the max capacity of their output a super good rogue in tier 4 armor can beat a subpar rogue in full tier 6 in dps for example.
I thought we are talking about ingame methods
