Well I guess you know the Versa / movement speed gems help regardless 
Yes they do but some of them are scaled differently for PvP.
As a warrior I’d say gems because you get a lot of movement speed from them while the conduit upgrades are random and there is a high chance that you will get something useless.
Exactly what I was thinking. I’ve got 5 of the death shards in the bank from the vaults and lots of research piled up as I didn’t use any to upgrade gear from korthia… it’s just getting those last crescents to get them to 226 and then what is it, 239/252 so double the conduits in shards and poof. A lot of work if you try to blast it fast
It’s not so bad anymore though since you get the ones for you specialisation first (or global ones that is).
However since upgrading conduits is an infinite chore because regardless of what the upgrade item says it upgrades step by step until you reach 252 i would actually go for the sockets first.

Conduits are much bigger upgrades than gems at least for WW. And I would think so for every other class as well. When enhanced your conduits are technically 278 ilvl.
Gems fall off more and more the later it goes into an xpac unless they make new ones.
I think dalassen gaming made a yt vod about it.
