General chat

After a long time away from my dutties on Azeroth, I finally came back.
I remember a game full of interaction in “Trade chat”, now it’s all gone.
There’s no more general chat? Are people condemned to chat only inside their guilds?
Everytime I log into the game it feels like I’m doing Single player…
What happened? What are your thought on this?

i started 1 month ago and until now i haven’t see a single interaction from those thousands of players…

Just some spam 10-lvl dk for boosting Raid-Dungeons…

I often get people to respond during peak hours… not so much when it’s 3am.

People now are mostly talking in guild/community/class discords. Trade chat is only for spam of crafters and boosters.

I generally leave Trade chat and Trade Services chat. I am self sufficient when it comes to crafting.

General still works though.

I assume quite many people have done like me, shut down all channels, because nowadays it’s one wrong sentence and you’re banned. Either because you used a bad word, or enough people got annoyed with you and mass reported in which case the ban is automatic. If you use Discord with your friends, this problem doesn’t exist.

I’ve said the F Bomb plenty of times ingame in General Chat out of frustration to a situation [not directed to anyone, like randomly changing shards after wasting time waiting for a rare to spawn], not once have I been banned having played since TBC.

Forums on the other hand… had a few suspensions due to mass reporting by one player with their army of alts, but the useless CS didn’t care keeping it in effect regardless.

I remember it well. I only said hello! and I saw the reply “OMG It’s you from the forum, [REDACTED] OFF!! AND WHEN YOU GET THERE, [REDACTED] OFF OVER THERE!”,

I was so hurt I cried.

or communities through discords, which communities in game was supposed to be an ingame solution for, but discord just works better then wow communities so no one uses communities ingame

trade chats are throttled and the game is mostly played in instances or chasing chores as time efficient as possible (talking in general isn’t time efficient)

No, I left them all because it’s a constant flow of boosting advertisement.

There’s no zone-wide events that require (or spark) conversation, especially with phasing/sharding, and most players are 20+ and the topics/banter they’d touch violates TOS and gets them banned.

Hence socializing has shifted from public channels to unmoderated private ones or discords.
