However, ignore urban dictionary, they know not what a Boomer is, even the phrase āOK Boomerā was said by someone fairly old, to someone who -was- an actual Boomer.
Here is my cut out and keep list of the correct terms for generations and when you can use them!
Baby Boomers These are your actual Boomers, and the age of the person to whom the āOK Boomerā quote was actually originally directed, they are born between 1944 and 1964, so aged between 76 and 56. Born in the post war optimism of World War II, they were quite lavish in this euphoria, which turned out really bad forā¦
Generation X Born between 1965 to 1979, aged between 55 and 41, also referred to as the āLatchkey Generationā or the āMTV Generationā, on the plus side, they were born during the rise of personal computers, but thatās about it, they also experienced the worst of the Cold War, the rise of AIDS, and inherited crippling debt. Sometimes often referred to as Cynical and disaffected. (Well, I suppose thatās what being told that sex will kill you will do to a young adolescent )
Generation Y Also known as Millennials and (ho ho ho) āEcho Boomersā Born between 1980 and 1994 aged between 40 and 26, Whilst they lacked the trauma of āProtect and Surviveā videos shown in schools, and the rise of AIDS , they did have their own traumatic defining events, such as tragically 9/11 and the increase of global terrorism as a concept, very techno savvy, and supposedly with less ābrand loyaltyā than previous generations, always looking for substance over style.
Lastly Generation Z also known as āZoomersā, Born between 1995- current day, so 25 and younger. Very techno savvy, with the average Zoomer receiving their first mobile phone at around 10 years old. Generally the children of Generation X, they sometimes inherit that cohortās propensity to be careful with money, but in Gen Zās case this is because whilst the reasons are different, the economy is in a similar bad state worldwide, as it was during Gen X.
