Giantstalker - What a server!

Hello all,

Just before we get started: I’m not creating this thread for the usual reasons (demanding a change, whining, …).

I’m making this thread to document my time on the abandoned PvE server Giantstalker. Will write here from time to time as I embark on this journey of solitude.

Current status: been so far in three guilds that transfered the past two weeks. Current guild is voting over the weekend whether or not they’ll stay. Don’t think it’s looking too good for the remain camp (where have we seen this before?) but one never knows. Results expected to come in on monday.

Regardless of the outcome, I’ll probably stay and continue my journey of logging in twice per week and farming ores for no particular reason. Planning to talk to the few remaining players over the coming weeks, once I’m sure the ones staying are doing so deliberately (it’s interesting to see how many players have no idea about free transfers and the massive decline in population).

Planning to do the daily heroic at least once this upcoming week. Wish me luck!

Good luck!

Thank you!

So to summarize: guild opted to leave and we parted as friends. Still have a few characters remaining on Giantstalker.

Because there was no other truly ‘active’ guild left (only leftovers from guilds with GM + most players transfered) we decided to make our own guild.

The guild is aptly called ‘Leftovers’ and welcomes anyone that:

  1. Loves to stay on Giantstalker for whatever reason
  2. Wants to follow my journey in game
  3. Enjoys playing/leveling on a low pop realm

/w Candy/Ricky or Leamar/Onipta in game for an invite!

Edit: forgot to add our discord! It’s: R3vMBE6b

Well I just found this out just now. I logged in and C+ told me 31 people were online (Horde side).

I’m going to be honest, I am surprised it lasted this long. When this launched I joined with the full expectation that as a fresh realm and especially pve fresh, it would have a limited lifetime and I expected that to be done with before even naxx phase was done. So it’s outlasted my expectation.

Quite the shame, but that’s life. I’m just going to stick around and hope they at least do some “joining” like they did in the classic era. I don’t actually do much playing on wrath classic anyway. But I did still login periodically.

Yes, it truly sucks. Used to be a great server!

If you ever spend some time on Alliance, we’ll be happy to welcome you!

All i can say is gachiSLAPW

It would last longer if blizzard actually made wotlk servers for wotlk players.

Sadge for server

The guild’s growing rapidly, turns out there’s still more people playing than expected.

Never imagined to become a GM, but I guess I have the free transfers to thank for that.

It’s also peculiar to see how many people:

  1. Have absolutely no idea their server pretty much died
  2. Have realised that there’s less people around than before, but did not hear about the free transfers
  3. Enjoy leveling in peace and quiet
  4. Play to only level casually

Refreshing to see all of this and to find out all these diverse reasons for staying on such a low pop server.

Another positive: we’ve been able to do the daily heroic each day I was online this week.

So if you feel like leveling and you want to be more than just a number/name in a huge guild on an anonymous server, then this is the place for you!

We need you!

I don’t know why people still believe anything but two to three servers will always be the best! You chose a server ALL of us knew will eventually fizzle down.

The absolutism in statements like this always makes it unforgiven for the people who don’t delve into extensive research before choosing a server. Why is this even a requirement ?

When I came back to the game back in October, after a little over a 10 year hiatus, I didn’t go on a deep dive research about which server was best to roll on. I wanted to play with friends I was on a discord with, so I rolled where they were.

If you’re starting from square-one again, makes sense to roll on a place where everyone is also doing the same. Everyone has their own agenda, and you can’t live your life making decisions on what you think other people might ( or not ) do.

Its the nature of the beast, one of the reasons is wow-logs which has changed the game towards judging a player based on metrics that are individual focused rather than guild/raid progression centric.

The other reason is loot-council which took over DKP system and produced a generation of guilds that care about leader/officers and the rest are servants.

End result: GDKP! No BS none-sense and no one cares about wow-logs.

Now the point of this reply:

GDKP is all you need to search for when looking for a guild. Join server Discord OR just join chat and you will quickly figure out if the server is worth joining or not.

Are free transfers still available?

You’re assuming that most players even use discord

Honestly, a lot of casual players will just roll on the server Blizzard tell them to. Which is currently Giantstalker, crazy as it is.

Still, not that bad for us. We can make dungeon groups now, which is pretty sweet.

@Kovalos: yes, I believe they are.

Giantstalker died with Gnev.

Haven’t written here in a while, but this story has been going great so far.

We went from not having enough people to do a simple heroic, to running them daily and raiding at least twice per week.

If there’s anyone out there looking for a small pop server with a tight-knit community where ‘everybody knows your name’ then this is the server for you! We especially welcome Enhancement Shamans

It was WotLK server, just 3.3.5. one. And the reason it was abandoned because fresh player attention span is at best around 3 months. Now with all the GDKP around on progression mega realms, there are guilds that require you only playing well and attending to raid to get the loot GDKP players pay hundreds of thousands of gold for. It seems that attendance is what kept many fresh players aways from good Wrath experience and they left, killing fresh realms in process.

When realm first becomes realm only

It took us a couple of months to get everyone going but we finally managed to clear all current content (10 man, 25 man is still upcoming haha).

It has been quite the journey so far
