So here I was, wanting to do something nice for a good friend and gift him a Name change as he’s been wanting one. Easy! I thought to myself.
Boy was I wrong.
For some reason that I can’t quite understand you are not able to gift Blizzard services to another player.
Bummer, moving on then.
Aha! You can gift a Balance to another player. That’s perfect! I just do that. Except, you know, I can’t because they use Euro and I use GBP.
I play on a EU server. EU servers have peeps from all kinds of different countries and, yes, we unfortunately use different currency. And because of that I am not able to give my friend a gift?
Here I was, wanting to do something nice and it’s been made absolutely impossible by Blizzard. Didn’t think in 2021 stuff like that would be that complicated.
Geez.
So how about just making all services available to be gifted. That would be a great idea.
The whole gift a blizzard balance just seems completely stupid and irrelevant to me now.
Guess what we don’t all live in the same place. Surprise.

Whenever I gift any friend not in the UK I have to go to a thirty party site and buy balance in Euros to send them.
It’s a pain

Just send him the money lol no need to make it so difficult.

I was gifted the blizzcon epic bundle for my contributions, but in order to do so a new account had to be created so that it was a company gifting rather than a person. I suspect this was because the money comes from the company or patreon.
Couldn’t be gifted… had to wait 3 days
Turns out blizzard even time-gates gifts. Blizzard works in mysterious ways…
“I wanted to buy you a thing but it was hard so here’s the money to buy it yourself,” really isn’t as much fun as your friend logging in and there’s a new button you put there on their behalf.
Steam gets it right. Currency doesn’t matter, just buy it and then specify whether it’s for you or a friend.

Doesn’t really make a difference? Most likely people are happier with the money tbh because that they can spend on something better than wow name change. I get your point but I don’t think it’s a feature that is really needed.

Until Jan 1st we were allowed to buy balance and game time for friends now we cant .
Stop defending a poor situation.

Just send your friend the money if you want to buy them game time. I really don’t see the issue.

You dont see an issue in blizzard removing a service just for UK players since Jan 1st which had been in place for a few years ?
Even close friends can be nervous about sending bank details to each other .
Carry on being the apologist im sure blizz will reward you one day with MvP.

What is the point of this thread? Next time submit a ticket instead of spamming forums.
Wat why would they? You can also use PayPal and whatever milllion ways are out there.
I’m not doing that. I’m just pointing out people like to find issues where there are none.
If this is the case then I would guess that this is a direct consequence of Brexit and the UK now having third party status with the EU.
It would be interesting to know if our Russian colleagues have these issues as well as if it is an EU thing then Blizz might have their hands tied.

It’s probably a consequence of UK being treated as a third country due to Brexit. Afaik the trade treaty only concerns goods and not services. I’m not an expert, but I don’t think Blizzard would do it on their own - it’s in their interest to sell as much as they can.

Never used gifting in game back to 2014, when I started playing on retail. Anyway, since then it has been several times I really wanted to make gifts in game. Quite sad, it’s no longer possible…

what a nice world we’re living in, instead of giving a physical gift? you gift them virtual in-game character name change xDDD
btw you can’t even buy name change from official shop site anymore, you have to do it inside game & starter accounts can’t use any in-game service
It sucks but not your fault that happens it’s your Gov fault.
I’ve been doing this for years though so I’m not sure what has changed exactly. I’ve never been able to gift balance in different currencies.

I was unaware this may have only been a chance since Brexit as it’s not stated anywhere. And yes, money might be more convinient but I am one of those people who likes to buy friends the things they said they wanted rather than shoving money at them and go “Here do it yourself.” Sue me, lol.
By the way I did use paypal. But as it was supposed to be a surprise it wasn’t that easy to get their email / paypal without giving stuff away.
