Today is the 22nd!
My timeās short, so here we go:

I think it catches it well. The instrumentation and dissonance in it definitely captures the essence of Drustvar over Gilneas, and admittedly I wasnāt aware of what exactly the Gilneas theme was, that the first minute is a variation on it. If weāre going by the standards /archetypes set by WoWās OST, the move away from baroque tonality /rhythm feels like a shift away from the musical theme of Gilneas as well, and I think that helps to establish the bridge between the two locations. The jazzy(?) middle section from 1:00-1:30 lost me a little bit, and each time I played it through I tried fitting the cello/bass line into a 3-beat rhythm (sort of hoping for something resembling a minuet, I suppose), but I ended up being thrown off ahah. The ending section, too, really locks in the Drustvar theme as well. Not sure what was making the percussive slapping sounds, but it certainly brings up imagery of a bewitched slaughterhouse.
No problem, as a german I love getting big chungus sized walls of text as a critique! And I know how to repond 'em rightly!
Iam glad, that the dissonance came through! There are two ways of dissonance I implemented.
For dissonance nr.1: I experimented long, till I got the perfect difference between the bells and the music box in segment 5 [the last part]. The effect comes from detuning the music box exactly 0.29 semitones down. Due to this detuning process and the similar appearance of both instruments as āclean and ringingā the eerieness maybe occur - or so it was planned.
For dissonance nr.2.: I took me much less time to create. Part of the reason why that is comes from the usage of the opening two chords in gilneas theme 1. If you play the video at 2.20 youāll hear how I walk both cords from the bottom to the upnote. I really wanted to put this hint in the song, next time Iāll be more cautious to present it more obivous!
[my trustlvl is just too low. It is just a piece of the original gilneas 1 sheet, so you see what I mean] https: slash /worgenzunge dot files dot wordpress dot. com/2020/05/gilneas.jpg
Glad to hear that!
I listend to it again and measured the files. You are right, this was/is my problem child there! I sadly had no time, to put perfection into it and since this is my first time using a DAW+Keyboard+sound library and my first āopusā I surely wasnāt aware enough. Thank you, for pointing that out
The slapping sounds came from breaking wood in the forest!
I thought of this more⦠ārudimentalā sound as a good antagonist against the handbells+music box, narrowing down the imagery to the degree you discribed. Slaughterhouse, bewitched man marching through the forest⦠- nice it connected that well!
This really was a nice feedback, Ortellus
My mind is going to blush!
This was my first try making something like this⦠Thank you!
