Its about time , i have been asking for this for so long , i main a class that is has been the worst class for over 2 expansions and blizz don’t wanna change that .
I look at others games like FF14 and Path of exile and i love the idea of being able to switch your "ROLE " , “JOB” , or what ever you wanna call it so easily and in game. Why can’t we have this in WOW ?
I do not wanna reroll since i have all my achievements , accomplishments , and all good memories on my main. But i hate playing the class so much , i am tired of being handicapped and i think this idea will help the game a lot.
Before anyone talk about various problems that might happen in game from this if added in game :
you have alts , you play them , there will not be any L2P issues , everyone will be happy and not suffering everytime they play there main
Please Blizz give us this option , i am very sure a lot will love it and even more people will use it
Wdym ? Mages ? Method had at least 2 fire mages in their mythic runs for world first,i wouldn’t call them “worst class” for raiding. Frost also seems to be strong in PvP.
Also i like having different characters more than merely playing different classes. Unless i can get all my professions on one toon i wouldn’t want to get all classes on the same character.
I would say it’s not a viable option there are so many difficulties, such as gear that would need to be overcome, not just the skill of the person. Maybe you should have mained a class with different spec options.
Class change is not an option in WoW, and even more when modern WoW goal is to acomplish achievements and get some rewards that often, are class locked.
Implementing class change would kill any future chances of having a new mage tower, or new class unique fantasy.
The sadest thing is that we are asking for class change options but not true and professional class balance.
That is not a problem. Give them the same gear and for a character boost and then you just use the catch up mechanics to re-gear the new class. I have 4 mages that I would also love to change to something else and I have been asking for this for years. This way don’t have to create a new character every time I want to try a new class and I don’t loose my rep or professions.
Mages can’t solo PvE as well as say a Hunter or Druid. Maybe mages don’t suite his play style? Maybe he would want to play tank, healer or melee DPS. Mages are ranged DPS and only work well in a raid party. I have 4 and would love to be able to change them to something else. Not all of us are in Method and raid competitively or like PvP. Some of use just want to have fun killing some monsters on our own. And as for “get better at playing mage”, why do I want too if their are more fun classes like hunter, druid or demon hunter? I play to have fun, not spend hours trying to play a class to it’s best. Maybe that makes your hair blow back, but I have other things to do as well like work for a living.
Just because you don’t want this in the game does not mean that there are other people that do. We all pay to play this game and we can ask for whatever we would like too see and maybe if there are enough of us we will get some love from Blizzard.
The Feral you referring too is Feral Druid I assume. That is the beauty of a Druid, if Feral does not work for you or you get stuck on an NPC with the Feral spec you can simply switch to Guardian spec with Restoration affinity and tank you way past the problem without having to beg guild members or strangers to help you with your problem because a lot of the player base these days would rather make fun of you than to help you.
Definitely an option as long as you understand that you will loose class specific achievements and looks collected in mages towers or by other means. I don’t care to loose my class specific stuff as long as I can have fun playing me character again instead of getting frustrated playing a class you don’t enjoy. Frustration = No Fun For You, which leads to people quitting the game and then we all loose. The fewer people that play the fewer people will play. No one wants to be the only one playing a MMORPG. If you can’t play with your friends you won’t play at all.
I don’t quite get how you reach that point from my reply. OP said he main’ed the worst class for two expansions, but that very class was used by the most min/max Guild in the World for the hardest content. It doesn’t sound like the worst class in the game right ? Don’t remember seeing DKs in the World first race for instance.
You ended up reading far too much into my comment. Just asked why OP said something that sound wrong and gave my opinion about it. I don’t think i would ever use it unless professions are unlocked or shared, that’s it.
It is the worst class for a solo player. I have 4. Mages are pure DPS but have very little in the form or armor, glass canons in other words. Top guilds use them in raids because of their damage output and they work as part of a team with healer to heal up the damage they take and a tank to soak the damage dealt by the target. Soloing stuff is a little different. Hunters for example is they own little raiding party with the pet as the tank and the hunter as the healer and ranged DPS. It’s easier for a player that starts out to play BM hunter than mage. Same with a Guardian Druid. It is a little low on DPS, but it can take a lot of damage and heal itself so the fights are longer, but you win them.
Looking at what top guilds use to raid does not help you when you out in the world questing solo.
Bottom line he is not having fun playing a Mage he would like and option to change his class without having to level his character, the professions and gaining rep again on a new character.
Trust me when I say even with FF14 system you make ‘alts’. Also there is nothing to stop you from levelling an alt and keeping your mage as your ‘main’.
Sometimes you want a fresh start, or a pure, or just a different looking character.
With WoW there is so many races compared to FF14 PoE etc whilst yes you still reroll to play them classes it’d be far worse in FF14 if you wanted to get all the specs back. So it works in FF14 favour.
The only way I could see it working is if they limit it so say you main a warrior all you could switch to is a DK and maybe a Rogue?
Priest can have Paladin, Hunter maybe Druid? I’m not sure if shaman would be a better option but hopefully you catch my drift.
All in all I don’t really like the idea personally. I have fazes where I’m adamant I want a down right powerful and sexy female character who distracts foes with assets and tart over intelligence and power!
But then I have my other characters which I take more seriously, this Blood Elf Paladin for example has a gambling problem.
…my point is I love WoWs class design for the fact that I can logon and make that an individual character each time if I wanted and make up a quirky back story, not ‘he/she is a Paladin so must be picture perfect’ pffft my female Paladin May be a beacon of light and justice but off duty…she’s just a total slu…
Whilst I know a lot of people would cringe at this it’s almost like writing a book for me or drawing. Funnily enough I don’t enjoy the whole RP side it’s more of a sense of character depth and build I make myself.
Just my two and I don’t expect anyone to listen but meh.
Bottom line he is not having fun playing a Mage he would like and option to change his class without having to level his character, the professions and gaining rep again on a new character. He most likely don’t care about the class or character back story. He just wants to have playing his character. He most likely does not want a multitude of alts just one character he enjoys playing. He most likely has an attachment to his main and just wants it to be something else. One day when he starts dabbling in RP he will make a specific character on an RP server for that. Then build up a back story and partake in RP scenarios with other RP guys and girls. But for now he just wants a character he can enjoy playing and not get brutalized by mobs while questing.
What this game really needs is for blizzard to kill off alts as we know it completely and make a character have access to all classes and you could switch between them by simply heading to their respective class hall and change/respec it there. I mean, why can’t my shaman change his mind and be a rogue instead if he wants to?
They could still keep each class experience-gated so you would have to level them up to unlock spells and abilities and learn to play them naturally.
With this simple change the horrible alt gear-up process everyone hates would be drastically reduced since your plate/mail/leather/cloth gear will carry over between some classes and specs , rerolling mains every expac just because blizzard decides to completely screw over your main’s class that expansion and making it near unplayable wouldn’t feel so punishing anymore because you could just play another class but still be on your main and have access to your reputations, professions and all the cool nostalgic stuff you have hoarded in your bank through the years.
It would also open up a lot more content for people who just want to play one character as you would now be able to unlock class halls and their story missions, hunt down legion artifact skins and so on.
If this were to happen they should also let us “absorb” our current alts into our main character so their reputation is merged (overshooting reputation would be added to paragon rep rewards), their levels kept in the new class list, all other progress with class hall progress they have done so far carries over and have all their items sent to you in the mailbox.
