Gnomes and Goblins get hated, A LOT. So let’s come together, to appreciate the little guy, the really little guy. These races are the mechanical backbone of each faction, without them, we would be significantly less powerful.
Do you mean in-game, by NPCs, or by players, anywhere? Because I haven’t really noticed players ripping on goblins. But yeah, I do like how the goblins have turned out in WoW, and I’m partial to the cyborgs AKA mechagnomes also
I see quite a bit of goblin hate, similar reasons to gnomes. Mostly them being small, and not big muscular and tough. Or being annoying.
All punting jokes are about gnomes and never about goblins, I wonder why
I like both actually. I love goblin personality more, and also their music.
That is strange to me, since, the two races are very similar. It could just be that gnomes have been around longer and therefore people have grown most distaste for them?
I would just love to actually see a Goblin or Gnome guild, that did endgame raiding, to show everyone nobody else is needed.
That’s my dream every night…
Are we invited ?
Strictly lore-speaking, Gnomes are one of the cornerstones of the Alliance! They have had excellent relationships with both humans and dwarves since essentially the first human Kingdoms.
During the first and second war, they provided as much technology and troops as they could, and contributed to quite a large portion of the Alliance forces. During the Third War when the Trogg situation in Gnomeregan erupted, the gnomes decided that it was their burden to bear. They didn’t call for the Alliance as they believed they had more pressing matters, but still lended as much technology they could both to fighting the scourge, but later the Burning Legion.
And they have in the years since, kept this up. Gnomes are overall the most selfless race of the Alliance and important trustworthy allies to any adventurer or friends.
Gnomes are cool.
I think it’s down to the fact the goblins have been around since W2 and have been nutjobs all along, so them being a “joke race” was kind of to be expected, whereas the other guys (apart from the flying machine in W2) only really appeared in WoW. And then Blizzard immediately turned them into a joke race too, but without the explosive mania, and have kept the joke going (squeaky/nasal voices, ridiculous proportions, almost no serious characters) whereas the goblins have gradually been treated more seriously and with virtually all real life personality types reflected rather than just 1 or 2 stereotypes.
Blizzard has an issue in general with many races in that they flanderize them and dumb them down.
Remember that orcs were meant to be a deviation from the stereotype, and that they actually had a rich, complex shamanistic culture and the whole war thing was forced upon them by demonic corruption.
And then in the later expansions of WoW(BfA as a prime example) Orcs are now unironically just “Zug zug smash, I love waaaaaaar!”
wait, people don’t like me?
Gotta catter to the warhammer larpers.
But, why would we?
I feel like, atleast gnomes in the lore have a lot of serious characters though, characters like mekkatorque and brink spannercrank for example
Sadly yeah
Honestly I think we got you both beaten in terms of player hate
If we look at the overall lore, yes, this is accurate. The in-game depiction from the start of the game and several expansions in have mostly made them seem like a joke however. At least from what I can tell. Kelsey is the first notable good character that I noticed and Mekkatorque has good characterization, even if I don’t like him.
Mechagnomes fall under the gnomish race! We are all brother and sisters, we are all ruled by High Tinker Mekkatorque! Just cause you have a few parts made of metal, doesn’t mean we don’t love you all the same as we would a usual gnome.
Goblins aren’t that laughed at as Gnomes simply due to the fact that they from vanilla were shady neutral greedy asses - which traits made them fit onto the Horde during Cataclysm. Wanna roll a ferengi? Well, here’s a green rat sharing the same greediness and lack of morale.
Gnomes have no obvious negative traits but being overly eccentric nerds, and what is that really compared to any other races? They’re just unique in their mystique history which have been covered though the later years.
I will say, it is easy if you don’t look into their lore to see them as a pretty goofy stupid race in comparison to say, night elves
