Gold hoarding

Probably others wondered too about it, but after an interesting dungeon I asked myself the question: what do those boosters and AH maniacs do with the pile of gold they acquire?

Everyone wants to turn literally everything in this game into gold… this is ridiculous. You loot a boe item that you refuse to trade in the group because you think it’ll make 1k gold and you keep it, and kick the one who’d actually use it… it’s worth like 90g.

My question is: what on earth do these people do with the gold? Okay, you can buy token and game time, ridiculously expensive mounts and then what? Can they actually convert it into real money? Because if yes, sign me up for a second job!

So yeah, if someone could kindly explain it to me what the actual F is happening with the gold, I’d be grateful.

Cheers

Sell it. /10chars

So they do convert it into real money in some way. Wtf is this…

There are websites where you can buy in game gold for irl cash, I just checked my servers pricing on a few sites and you can fund a monthly sub by selling only 200k gold. If a booster sold a million gold on my server they have the better part of $100

I pay my sub with gold. I can buy whatever the hell I want, expensive mounts (including Longboi, if I ever get off my lazy bum, and find a realm its up on), armor stacked +15 carries for my alts (or new mains), KSM for friends who don’t run M+ but like collecting mounts, expensive stuff of the BMAH, that kind of stuff.

I also keep plenty of it, for potential faction changes (once we get cross-faction play, I have over a dozen characters I’ll faction change back to alliance), potential realm transfers (for longboi, or if I ever decide to join a raiding guild). I also like to have ample supply of gold going into the next expansion, so whatever expensive goodies are thrown at us, I can buy them. Keep it as a safety net.

Mind you, I don’t care about BoEs. Didn’t care when they were selling for 100k, didn’t care when they sold for millions in BfA. Selling those takes effort, and I don’t like spending that much effort.

Plenty of boosters I know spend a lot of their gold on gearing their alts. Some guilds boost to pay back debts from the world first race (though, those are guild boosts, and usually raid boosts, not dungeons).

I don’t do boosts or ah stuff but I had 8 million last year. When the token dropped to 160k I sold it all for blizzard balance

Allowed me to buy the rest oh the store mounts I didn’t have (with some left)

Some sell it for real money, ofc, but that carries risks. Blizzard occasionally shuts down operations that get too well known.

You can convert it to Blizzard Balance, and then “gift” games and packs and such to people who pay you for them. I’m not quite sure how that all works when it comes to selling codes, but I have heard that that is a less risky though indirect way fo selling gold.

i heard selling boost is hard market if u wipe u get punished realy hard …
u besicly can get “Fired” from a boosting company if you wipe in a M+ …

If you have embarrassing amounts of gold then you can send a few million to me.

Just tell me what realm and faction.

Watch the bellular video on tokens and boosters , plenty of Eastern Europeans make money selling gold than an actual paid job.

LIke a student in belarus was making 1400 euros a month playing wow boosting. Whereas the average wage there is 558 euros according to google.

Also gold makers like Studen Albatroz just blow it all on tokens to buy char boosts and transfers , black market auction house. Trade to mythic raiding guilds with an interest added.

Can’t remember the streamer but in bfa he gave away 50 x longbois to his viewers in stream give aways. Things like that , but people assume gold makers are somehow evil just because they enjoy playing game differently.

For a wipe? No. For a deplete? That’s gonna be a strike, a balance deduction, and if it happens too often, removal. In extreme cases, immediate removal.

It’s very hard to deplete a boost run in S2, though, especially this late into the season, and even when the buyer is AFK. The only deplete in a boost run I had so far in S2 - a single one - was when a tank had a connection as stable as a goblin engineer’s latest invention.

Mostly save it for Tokens. Maybe buying tokens for friends… If I could reliably by the AH mount I would, but soooomebody decided that it’s only available for people desperate enough to play BFA, and annoyingly you can’t buy games/game upgrades on the real money store with tokens.

wealthy/extremely wealthy boosters buy tier 3 sets/tcg tabards/ mounts and all other kind of stuff off the bmah, or swift zulian tiger/razzashi raptor which are gold capped, but you don’t need to be that wealthy to buy that stuff since it’s on the bmah, the actual wealthy stuff are spectral tigers which are between like 60 million to 120 million gold, magic roosters were like 70 million gold last time i looked, big blizzard bears are around 14 mil gold and so on, there’s stuff like that to throw your gold to if you really are big, you just buy it from reputable sources like trading discords

i gave a freind cople of times like 300.000 gold so freind was avable to buy wow token to get game time

AH folks earn gold for the sake of it so it’s different.

Meanwhile boosters their own biggest clients, as they’ll sell boosts on their mains and rely on boosts for their alts etc. They can after all easily afford it anyway.

Which kind of BOE tho ? And it’s very unlikely that whatever happened to you was caused by a 1k gold item out of greed. Sounds like there’s much more to this story than merely a bit of gold on the table.

  • Play & Get all Blizzard for “free”
  • Get shop mounts for two tokens (currently >600k)
  • BMAH drops, mounts, cosmetics etc
  • Being able to buy everything you need or want and not really have to care too much about it.

I threw around 400k a few days ago to upgrade a few sets of heirlooms for my alts. It’s certainly not required or even worth it by any mean but it’ll make my life easier & I can definitely afford it so why not ?

Now that my professions are set up i’ll easily get that gold back with minimal efforts anyway. I’m certainly not in the same leagues as the folks having multiple gold capped characters but I have been earning more than 1M a month lately so I can afford it.

There’s also a big inflation right now, thanks to all the raw gold the open world is giving players. It’s not hard to get 100k gold right now, merely timegated.

Beside that tho ? It’s the same old thing. We already had something similar to boosting back in vanilla to receive drops etc, it’s just far more widespread & structure right now.

I like to make money from the auction house. Despite only logging in 2-3 hours a week, I’m still making around 1-1.5m per month.

When I’m playing more regularly, I keep my eye on the black market for transmogs I’d like. I also spend ALOT on potions & consumables for all content (saltwater for BGs etc)

i can make like 180 mill a month on a server like AD

Well, Goldshire boosting is its own kind of business, yes.

I made a txt document tracking all my spending in SL, I’ve spent around 37mil since sl launched.

Bought tokens, helped out friends, store mounts and store stuff, black market auction mounts, mogs, tusks of mannoroth and stuff, pets and atm sitting on 2.4mil which may seem like a lot but considering my spendings it’s not
