No and why do you need to rub it in?
;(
Pretty much.
I have very simple chart for what I find as a great fantasy - and that is if I can find in other game things which Warcraft can provide.
Can I play as human and elf in other games? Absolutely. And quite often get even better lore than what is in WoW.
Can I play as orcs? Not as much but also quite often.
Can I play Tauren? - As minotaur at times, but no other minotaurs have Native american vibe. Actually I donât recall other games to heavily borrow from these theme so I can say that Tauren are quite unique take on this race.
Trolls? Usually dumb brutes cave/ bridge dwellers, typically look like deformed giant. WoW trolls are creators of first original Azeroth civilization, they have complex religion system where they revere wild gods, theyâre stylized after Aztecs/ Incas/ Mayans, practice voodoo and physically look nothing like generic depiction of a troll.
There is no way I can find race that is even close to trolls, and reptilians arenât them.
Elves are next to humans and dwarves the most default fantasy race. There is nothing that actually makes them stand out, - unless we count that theyâre mana addicts and that they came from trolls.
There is nothing fantasy about humans. They are literally real people. Also, current Tauren draw from racist native northern American stereotypes. Instead of the angry and brutal minotaur people they are inspired from.
And elves are just humans with pointy ears.
If Tauren are racist take, then so is Vulpera - very racist depiction of Beduins.
eh the troll race is only good for fertilizers for my ranch in pandaria the only good troll is a dead troll well i suppose you dark spears can live we will always need meat shields
Going by their origin story. Humans and elves have nothing to do with each other. Especially if you look at night elves and nightborne. Purple blue skin and all that.
If only the Alliance had an Emperor instead of a High King.
âFOR THE HIGH KING!â just does not have the same âoomphâ to it, you know?
How to make the Alliance great again - get rid of the title of High King, introduce Emperor instead⌠the Emperor does not even have to be a character anyone likes, itâll just give the Alliance the chance to yell âFOR THE EMPEROR!â which is satisfying enough in itself⌠I can see the Alliance being saved this way.
It would be so cringe if it would be used for Anduin.
It is so much an honor of the person anyway though, as mentioned, just yelling out âFOR THE EMPERORâ is satisfying enough.
Regarding the human bit, I think there are ways in which to spice them to the point of becoming a good fantasy race of their own.
For good or ill, the Paladin trope is a staple one for most of the standard fantasy themes and settings, but give it a zealous twist and your are in for some interesting stories.
We also have the âdarkerâ side of humanity, and the likes of Worgen or Undead, as playable deviations of what ingame humans may bring to the story. Those are interesting ways in which to complement the human story.
Wonât comment on the whole list, but I do feel like at least for the âworstâ ones, you are being carried away by what in essence is their leaders fault.
Tauren And Humans arenât âtrash tierâ or uninteresting per se, but they quickly become such when under the likes of Baine, Anduin or Jaina. Mainly because they become but glorified extensions of their personas, and props thrown into the plot with the lone purpose of making said characters shine.
Tauren do have some interesting bits that could be developed. And most of these we saw thanks to the tangential attention the HM had. Lasan, Mayla, Huln,âŚthey are all rather impressive and interesting characters that bring with them appealing themes for the race. I enjoyed tribalism and the savagery in conjunction with a more spiritual approach. And in that regard, Tauren are rather unique.
Humans also have some interesting bits to them. Not as some average standard trooper knights, that I agree, but they do have some interesting stuff going on if Blizzard tried to develop them beyond the Wrynns.
Tides of Darkness, Night of the Dragon, Beyond the Dark Portal,âŚthese were novels that offered a more expanded view on the human kingdoms, and indeed showed differences that if expanded, could make the human kingdoms more unique.
For example, we get to know that Stromgarde is more mountain based, and the description of their people leans to gruff mountaineers that wield axes and hammers, and are represented along the lines of more Vrykul based societies.
We then have Lordaeron, which was wealthier, more refined, and deeply religious. The fact that this kingdom spawned both Paladins and Necromancers shows a great contrast for the spiritual side in ingame humans.
The list goes on, but the point is, that Blizzard can expand on almost every race to the point of making it interesting. But they often fall quite short in their eagerness to push a particular agenda for certain characters, and use the race they represent as mere cheerleaders for it.
Ps: Long post, but no TLDR. Sorry.
It sounds too mich like hiking. And that doesnât invoke very threatening imagesâŚ
The Alliance does not need a High King or an Emperor. What the Alliance needs is a Supreme commander, no more, no less.
If Anduin is the peak of humanity I have to pukeâŚ
Emperor fits to trolls, but for some reason they use very untrollish titles such as King/queen.
Emperor is usually associated with exotic stuff. And humans doeanât strike me as exotic.
It really isnât. Tis a title of Roman origin, which survived through the Byzantine Empire, then got hijacked by literally everyone else.
You have different variations and traditions of it, which arose separately, but very few of them predate the Roman variation, and none of them are known well enough to warrant the words âusually associatedâ.
I agree. Humans in this game sucks and anyone who plays them is morally repugnant.
Still not biased.
Well might be me but when I hear âemperorâ I see either China or Inca rulers. Ancient Romans were ruled by cesar. Could be it.
If Europe is exotic then sure, yeah.
That feeling when Erevien likes this comment while playing a human paladin.
Well, maybe he wants to tell us heâs morally repugnant and heâs self-conscious about it.
