Given the OP focuses on supposed virtue signalling (a loaded term designed to dimiss out of hand anyone’s complaint by implying it to be nothing more than moral narcissism. It’s nice to have a shorthand that allows you not to engage with what they are saying isn’t it?) they clearly think that the worst thing happening to WoW right now are the removal of these references. Are we playing the same game world I wonder? Anyone who thinks the removal of these old jokes and references is the death of WoW is someone who has skewed priorities.

WoW is not in trouble because of the current presence or future absence of these references. WoW is in trouble because the developers have turned WoW into a bad game at the exact same moment the penny dropped among the MMO fanbase that some of WoW’s competitors are actually superior products.

The removal of these references will not fix WoW but by the same measure their presence does not make a WoW a better game.

WoW’s problems are rooted in that the developers are working on an MMORPG but seem to think they are working on a lobby game. That is the issue. That’s why I am upset with WoW. Complaining about these references being removed is like moaning about how spilled milk has ruined your kitchen forever while the house burns down around you.

Although I agree with your post, this last bit I think I would like to add something to it. I realise what you say is true, but then we also have that emotional attachment, I recently said this in a similar thread, if you have played a long time there is the old quest lines you love and you go back every so often and play through them again, just because they were funny/great story/great characters etc. I don’t mind the bowls of fruit, the dialogue changes on some things I tend to resent more because they are messing with my memories and the fun I had when doing these quests, which in the most part I think are humorous rather than disrespectful.

I get that but I think ultimately it’s small beans. The people qutting over that rather than the game being objectively awful have gotten their priorities mixed up.
