As most likely are aware of crafting orders can be very expensive if you contact the wrong type of crafter, and I’d like to write a tip how to make crafting orders as cheap as possible for you!
The persons spamming their crafting posts in trade are almost always the persons who charge the most amount of gold for their crafting, most likely because they get the most publicity in trade chat. My tip is simply to avoid them as best as you can if you want to save gold, and instead do this (unless you already know):
There is an addon which is available where you usually get your addons, which automatically detects crafting requests in trade chat and possibly general chat too, haven’t tried that channel yet.
Crafters use this addon because it automatically whisper players with a pre-written whisper when the addon detects certain words or gear links in chat.
Write a post in trade chat with a crafting request. For example “LF tailor [Consecrated Cloak] 675, my rank 3 mats /w price”.
This way you should get a lot of whispers from people who can craft your item(s), depending on the hour of the day.
These whispers create an offer system and you simply choose the person who writes “Tip anything you like”, which is one of the primary points of the tip I’m writing.
Even if you tip let’s say 4k for a 675 ilvl craft, it will still be substantially cheaper than whispering one of those trade spammers who usually requests at least 10k gold for a single 629 ilvl craft for example.
If you play alts and have people craft gear for your gearing process, this tip will help you save gold in the long run.
Get guildies to craft so you can avoid chancers asking for 5+k for the most basic of stuff. Compensate for limited stuff like Concentration and Acuities ofc.
Better yet craft the stuff yourself, but I believe this post is meant for people who don’t have the professions to craft items or don’t have friends/guildnates to craft them for them.
Anyway, this is good advice. Avoid traders that spam a lot or list multiple professions (for examplecif you see BS+LW+Tailor+enchant, that person will skin you alive). Best method is to not /w anyone and just list what you need crafted, someone reasonable will come sooner or later and craft your item cheap.
I got some 675 items crafted and the price the person asked for was so low I couldn’t believe it. It was lower than I would have tried to negotiate down to.
I used to rely on outside crafters(both trade and guild) to get my stuff made but went with full “self-reliance mode” in TWW with having pretty much all profs close to max leveled(still lagging behind on engi but got no classes such as hunters which can use engi stuff so…not in a huge rush to level it).
And I can say this. Its been very liberating. Can craft or even re-craft endless times a day when I am experimenting on specs and stuff without paying a token for traders or becoming an nuisance to guildies.
