I received deserter debuf after being kicked by abusive players for being AFK in AV even if I wasnt AFK and was actively playing the game. It kinda made me feel as if the system was unfair against me. So here is what happened:
I joined mid game on losing AV match, SH bunker and SH GY was lost, IWB bunker was almost destroyed. I immediately after join went to try and save IWB but the timer run out by the time I go there, after seeing that it got burned, I returned to our base to try to save DB South bunker, which we managed to retake by the time I go there. After I arrived I stayed to defend the bunker for a while because obviously enemy stealthers were trying to take it. I became stealthed near the flag with night elf stealth ability and shortly after a druid tried to take the flag, luckily me and 1 rogue managed to kill him. After that the rogue that helped me went somewhere else and 2 enemy rogues ambushed me at the bunker. I was alone against 2 rogues, so I did what any sane person would do ā¦ run away . Luckily I managed to get out and stayed next to the guards at stormpike aid station while waiting for somebody from our team to come to help retake the bunker, I had no chance against 2 rogues and infact help was coming as I could see from the map, probably the rogue that helped me before. I was at srormpike aid station maybe 20 seconds refilling my hp, when somebody from our team said that I was AFK in Base. It was probably some addon that said the text because it said something like this: Kasarov-Frostmane AFK Base which is not a text that somebody would type with capital letters and even my realm name in it. By the time I managed to explain to our team that I wasnt AFK, I got kicked out and received the deserter debuf which made me feel very bad because I was genuinely trying to help fight a losing battle. I was also raid leader and I was giving general tactics advice to team as all of above was happening.
My feeling bad wasnt because of the kick or the buggy addon and abusive language by the player of the addon. I felt bad because the game flagged me as deserter and while writing this post takes more time than the debuf 15 minutes punishment I still felt the need to address the issue, because other players might feel treated unfairly by the system too.
For you to get kicked out, two things has to happen.
People report you for AFK.
You get a debuff, if you donāt attack someone/something within 60 seconds, you get removed from the battleground.
So you didnāt just get reported, you also stood still and wasnāt active for a minute. If youāre fighting people and active, you canāt get kicked out for being afk.
Several people flagged you as afk and I assume no horde came near the base you were defending in 60 secs because the timer counted down to 0.
The debuff will be in the top right corner, it kinda looks like a cow face. Anyway you just have to deal damage to an enemy faction member with 1+ point of damage to remove it.
So what you do in that scenario is the abandon the objective and go hunt for horde to touch.
Exactly. Iāve been hit by a few boots since I started doing BGs again 2 months ago. But I havenāt seen any messages mentioning my nick-realm in the chat window.
So far Iāve only found a single outdated addon for this: AFK Tracker.
Kasarov, I was in that BG and remember this.
Iāve seen the player who said Kasarov-Frostmane AFK Base in many other Epic BGs and have the impression they just want to āpoliceā what everyone else is doing. They often stand still probably checking everyoneās DPS / healing and watching the map, ready to pounce on anyone deemed to be not pulling their weight (in their view).
Of course, the irony of their own low damage and being AFK whilst they do this was lost on them when I pointed this out, and I got abuse and the debuff myself a few seconds later. The debuff only lasted a few seconds as I was tanking some GY guards at the time.
A solution ? Report them every chance you get - if they are just standing there checking out everyone else, theyāll get a taste of what they are dishing out.
If they arenāt no harm done.
Wonāt name and shame them of course, but itās a DK.
I have actually seen the same thing in AV a couple of times someone saying kasarov-frostmane afk. Once in the mines I believe and then an argument ensued afterwards cause he wasnāt afk
Whilst I canāt comment on the addon as I havenāt come across it before, the problem with AFK players is still a major issue in the 40 Epic Battlegrounds. It doesnāt take a genius to take a quick look at the map and see numerous people āsittingā in the most obvious AFK/leeching parts. Some when flagged up in instance chat as being AFK leave straight away, others give abuse or quickly move to engage and then say āNO Iām not!ā. The worst is when they claim theyāve just joined and quick look at scoreboard shows their honor level same as others have been in the battleground for 30 minutesā¦
Seen it a couple more times in the last few days, what could only be described as abuse of the AFK-reporting system. That is, reporting people AFK that dare to answer them back or refuse to follow their orders. Itās pathetic.
Iām at the stage now that if I join a BG and see any of a handful of people in my team, Iāll just /afk out of there. Got no time for their toxic chat or behaviour.
