With wings up that’s not totally unexpected damage. Not saying it’s right. Nothing should hit that hard right now.
This is overtunned. Against double DPS 2v2 or a regular 3v3 you get 100%-0% in a global with this stuff.
Now imagine that you’re a ret pally against a priest and you hit him over the arena match 7 times with Templar’s Verdict and your biggest hit was 4171… and yes i had wings.
Because that just happened in a skirmish for me now.
I believe you. I am not familiar with how the scaling works for retri paladin, but obviously there is a build that scales out of proportion.
Yes it is, he probably used https://www.wowhead.com/spell=210323/vengeance-aura and had https://www.wowhead.com/spell=152262/seraphim active along with https://www.wowhead.com/spell=31884/avenging-wrath and https://www.wowhead.com/spell=267610/righteous-verdict (10% in PVP) and https://www.wowhead.com/spell=343721/final-reckoning (30% in PvP) and finally https://www.wowhead.com/spell=85256/templars-verdict which is lower in PvP already… don’t remember by how much exactly.
The point is that Blizz is dumb having all these modifiers, which each of them sans TV and RV have cooldowns. Get rid of some of them, like Seraphim and Vengeance Aura and the burst is already 30%+ lower with lower chance of happening.
Oh and they should change the stupid https://www.wowhead.com/spell=340218/ringing-clarity conduit…
As you can see some of those spells are already nerfed, they might as well take some out and increase the baseline of other spells, like https://www.wowhead.com/spell=35395/crusader-strike which does less damage than an autoattack.
This burst meta is annoying to play in, remember that even as a ret pally i have to play against ret pallies, fire mages, balance druids, etc which have high burst.
Not to mention that rng is still the ruling factor to win or lose games, it isn’t about skill as little or much it was in the past…
Tl;DR RNG + 4353564 ability increases = 1-2 shots from everybody, nerf the bursts and up the sustained, Blizz!
Ret’s all about stacking damage modifiers. Im not entirely sure on the numbers in PvP but in PvE it works out to be somewhere around a 300% increased damage. Before taking stuff like trinkets into the equation.
Wings on their own are actually kinda weak. It’s just that the other damage modifiers doesn’t really have a noticeable or flashy animation. So it looks like wings are the culprit, but in reality the paladin just popped like ~7 different buffs and debuffs to achieve that damage. Which leads to the incredible damage spikes.
TBH Wings give you crit, which is the key component to making this damage absurd. If it wouldn’t give crit, it’s actually laughable damage considering how much setup goes into doing that and you don’t have anything to follow it up with really. Once buffs and debuffs start to fade, damage drops sharply, you really only get one juiciest hit.
But I agree, there is no single ability that really bumps it more than the others, it’s just that I have… 7? of them compounding on each other (Wings, seraphim, trinket, pelagos proc, judgment, final reck, righteous verdict, veng aura, oh it’s 8… might be even 9 if I wait for the random bolt from final reckoning to strike before I pop, and let’s make it possibly 10 in actual arenas because you could play with Disc for wings or Sham for Skyfury).
Next time rogue is op, I hope you guys are getting nerfed right away.
So do I, getting one shotted is no fun for anyone. I agree with Rayzens btw, too many stupid modifiers.
What I’m saying is :
When paladin is op, everyone complains about.
When paladin is not op, everyone still complains about.
When rogue, mage or lock is op, nobody complains.
It kinda feels bad.
The community wants ret to be bad, but the community wants some meta shift too…
