Just wondering two things - If I do the grand hunt on character A in azure span for example, if I log a different character can I do that hunt again, or is the event done for the whole realm until next Hunt shows up?
Similarly, is the disgruntled hunter available without the active hunt, or do I have to wait for the specific hunt to find the NPC in the area?
Grand Hunt Events are unlocked at renown 5 with Maruuk Centaur, the major faction of Ohn’ahran Plains.
Dropchance is unknown, but presumably 1-5% as with most raredrops. Definitely not 10% or higher, since I’ve opened about 30 with no drop.
Since renown unlocks are accountwide, once you’ve hit renown 5 with Maruuk Centaur on any character, you can bring over ALL your chars to the dragonisles, and participate in the hunts once a week for a chance at this mount. Currently you can even obtain a Grand Hunt Spoils on a trial character. Haven’t been able to confirm wether the mount can drop for a trial character tho, but i don’t see why not.
The disgruntled hunter requires the hunt to be up in the right zone, then you can just keep completing them until you get it to move to the right part of the map to find the disgruntled hunter you are missing.
The reward chests from the hunt gradually decay in quality - the 1st gives a purple, then, blue then green and finally white. The white one is fully repeatable. It’s per character so you can get 1 purple bag per character per week. The colors for Terachromancer do drop from all versions of the bag - but I suspect are a lot higher drop chance on the purple.
The disgruntled hunter moves about with the event - so as Puny said you just need to complete a hunt to get it to move somewhere else in the zone - there’s loads of folks doing it ATM so it doesn’t take long to get all for the zone. But you won’t be able to complete other zones until the hunts move to them. The hunts change zones every hour.
For the Northern Thaldrazus hunt - you want to find the Disgruntled hunter ASAP after it starts as he can be attacked and killed by NPCs from one of the objectives (he’s in a safe spot for all the rest so you can chill a bit with those).
And the rotation may repeat in cycle which is annoying but not the end of the world. If you don’t want to be in game then you can see what the current hunt is on the wowhead front page.
Okay that’s helpful thank you. It seems like sometimes I show up to the zone the hunt should be in and there’s just nothing happening, even though Wowhead shows it should still have maybe an hour or so left. When this happens is there something I’m doing wrong or am I just going to have to wait?
There’s a short gap of maybe 2-3 mins at the top of the hour while it moves zone but otherwise it’s never not up.
My best guess is that you are looking at the wrong region on the wowhead front page (make sure the NA|EU Option is set appropriately.
Otherwise you can see what zone it’s in from the main Dragon Isles map - look for the horn in the middle of one zone. Once you are in that zone the icon on the zone map should show you exactly where it currently is - albeit I have seen this be a bit reluctant to show occasionally and had to fly around a bit to get it to show up.
If by chance that area was Waking shores make sure to check the bottom left side of the, zone. There is a hunt area there that I noticed does not necessarily have the horn show up clearly, and because it is near the border to the adjacent area it is easy to miss.
For new players this is bad when the first weekly quest in Valdrakken requires you to finish a Grand Hunt. Just coming back to the game and farm 7500 rep with Marukaii in a few days is not doable. FIX THIS.
