Why aren’t graphical designers using reflective surfaces / shining metal anymore, example like this one?
Bladed weapons would look so much better with / without enchants (if they would be reflected by the edge of the blade)

I don’t know the answer to your question, but the example you linked looks horrible precisely because of it
Because there is no real reflexion in the game. In fact, almost all the objects in the game are tied to the same light map baked in the engine. Using that method is far more optimized, but doesn’t fit with a mirror like reflective surface, since you would see it doesn’t reflect the environment around you, but a weird texture that simulate lights like the one on this weapon.
Since the 9.0, most of the metallic pieces of armor and weapons got some ‘‘reflective values’’ upscaled (with that light map i told before) and feel’s more metallic than before.
