Greetings! I thought I’d ask here before I execute a concept that might actually be way out there, mary-sue and downright stupid.
So! I have a Blood elf hunter, IC she’s a ranger that’s very focused on nature. Is it acceptable that she can do some form of nature magic, and in exchange develop green eyes? Or a green-ish hue?
While I’m not entirely opposed to the idea, druids don’t rock green eyes even after extensive use of nature magic. I guess you could use it as an explanation for the green-ish hue you mentioned though, seeing as I’m pretty sure there’s an option or two of the void/blood elf blue eyes that have a green tint… or maybe I’m color blind.
Yeah, considering we really haven’t seen those who wield nature magic have green eyes (except for Malfurion.) I was a bit unsure whether or not it was an acceptable idea.
It’s definitely pure headcanon considering how night elves do not have green eyes as an option despite their druidic roots. The idea is a little bit snowflake-ish, but it’s not outright stated this would be impossible either. Some people will like it, some won’t.
There’s nothing specific in the canon lore (to my knowledge) that would indicate belves/velves eye colour changes from nature based magic, I don’t think there are many examples of them dabbling in druidism other than the guy on the Arcaztraz. The belf green comes from fel corruption, the blue is supposedly from arcane and now yellow from the cleansed sunwell.
Nelves on the other hand generally have silver/gold/black, gold being an apparently sign of great druidic power, black being elune mad.
Saying that there’s a myriad of eye colour choices these days and the lore hasn’t really been great or all encompassing to say the least so if you want to try it then it’s unlikely to be a big deal but it doesn’t have the strongest foundation in lore.
So… maybe? Nature magic can certainly summon green colours in spells like Wrath, but generally nature magic doesn’t seem to leave the same marks on the wielder as Arcane, Fel or Void magic. Malfurion’s depiction has changed eye-colours a fair bit, so it may be more a matter of artistic interpretation than a particular lore intent.
Might be simpler to say it’s an Illusion spell that makes the eyes seem more green-ish if green eyes is the end goal.
You don’t need a justification for a small character detail such as eye color, just RP having green eyes if ppl get worked up about that they not worth ur time
Lady Liadrin had golden eyes in Hearthstone long before they were added in Legion; Lor’themar was described as having “hazel” eyes. Just say your magic does it cos magic can do anything p much.
Also, as Talirei and countless other people in countless other discussion on the topic mentioned, eye color has nothing to do with being blood/high elf, as it changes based on main magic that flows through elf´s body. In case of blood elves before restoration of Sunwell and some high elves, it was Fel, thus resulting in green eyes.
Based on what I know both OOC and IC through my character in lessons it’s bit of a yes and no.
Yes it is possible for a Blood Elf Ranger to use nature magic, after all you do have Rangers with animal companions.
No at the same time because it’s quite limited because of the corruption most Belves have or should have.
As for the eye color? Eh I’m gonna default to claiming ignorance on this, I really can’t answer for certain aside from the fact that we know all Belves who went to Outland and came back do still have green eyes.
Yes, but as far as I know the whole sunwell exploding due to the invasion of the Scourge was the reason why they turned to fel and later on the sunwell again.
It still doesn’t make sense why Blizzard gave that eye tint to blood elves. Since as far as I know:
If the magical source is fel: green (blood elves)
If the magical source is the sun well: golden (blood elves)
If the magical source is arcane: blue (high elves)
The whole point was that they are different politically and you can see a major difference by their eye color.
Imagine seeing 2 elves infront of you. Both are having blue eyes and look pretty much the same.
Elf A: “Hey I am a blood elf, but I have blue eyes and I am with the Horde”
Elf B: “Hey I am a high elf, I have blue eyes and I am with the Alliance”
Genuine question;
How would anyone know if a blood elf is a blood elf when they can just turn their eye blues and stand around? Same way around, How would anyone know it’s a high elf?
Put a blood elf with blue eyes into Stormwind, nobody would notice a difference. Put a high elf with blue eyes into Orgrimmar, nobody would notice a difference since it might just be a blood elf with blue eyes after all.
Are there any features where you can see a difference?
I do belive actually that Alleria Windrunner’s eyes was described as in past lore: ‘’ In Tides of Darkness, Alleria’s eye color was described as a brilliant emerald-green.’’
They changed it ofcourse to blue, even before her turn to becoming a Ren’dorei, but I don’t see it as wrong to one can note to say that she may have a link to nature magic. It’s commonplace for Farstriders to have that as well.
