I have been messing around with affliction lock and I was excited about trying out Grimoire of Sacrifice, however I quickly realized that it has zero synergy with the General Warlock tree.
The obvious choice for DPS in the general tree is obviously Grimoire of Synergy, making Grimoire of Sacrifice completely useless.
I think blizzard need to add some synergy with grimoire of sacrifice in the general warlock tree, because not using a pet seems like a complete waste now, since almost all talent points are in relation to having a summoned pet.
It depends, but Grimoire of Sacrifice is no longer a dead talent in PVE, whether you like it or not, especially for Affliction.
For Affliction, Grimoire of Sacrifice is the best choice in most situations as it deals a lot more damages than having a pet out + Grimoire of Synergy in the Warlock class tree.
The talent is very accessible for Affliction, you don’t need to pick weird talents to get to it, so it’s a no-brainer.
2 talents in the Warlock class tree actually buff Grimoire of Sacrifice and are the reasons why it’s almost always a must pick at the moment for Affliction:
-Demonic Inspiration
-Wrathful Minion
Both those talents buff Grimoire of Sacrifice if you play with it, each buffs its damages by 15%.
Grimoire of Synergy DOES NOT WORK with Grimoire of Sacrifice, so if you pick Grimoire of Sacrifice, either in Affliction or in Destruction, DO NOT SPEND 2 points in Grimoire of Synergy, it is useless. Those two talents do not interact (the Wowhead talent “guide” for affliction is very very wrong unfortunately).
However, the Warlock Legendary, Demonic Synergy can still proc when you play with Grimoire of Sacrifice.
For Destruction, the talent is just very hard to get to, you have to spend a lot of points on very niche or situational talents, so we have to wait for simcrafts to tell us if it’s worth it trying to get it. I don’t think it is.
They just added alot of synergy with grimoire of sacrifice. All talents now display stuff like:
Soul link: Grimoire of sacrifice is active your stamina is increased by 10%.
Wrathful minion: Increases grimoire of sacrifice damage by 15%
Demonic inspiration: Increases grimoire of sacrifice damage by 15%
