Grom or Garrosh?

Whatever happened with Grommash being the endgame raid boss for WoD? If I’m not mistaken at one point they said he was supposed to be the one and personally I’d love to see that fight more than Garrosh one

WoD was cut short unfortunately. There was an entire Shattrath raid planned which never happened. The city was basically never used, which is a damn shame.

it would have been before Hellfire Citadel patch, and would have added a lot of background to who Yrel actually is, instead of the merry sue that we ended up getting. I’d imagine Grommash would have been there as well.

Now personally I’m curious if a main universe Grommash appearance in the Shadowlands could be meaningfully implemented somehow.

Pretty much what Gorbathust said.
You have to remember WoD launched with 2 Raids although they opened roughly 2 and a half months apart from eacht other with Highmaul first and then Blackrock foundry. Somewhere around that time the whole thing happened with cutting short WoD for whatever reason and Blizz pretty much abandoning the whole Expansion.
Patch 6.1 which normally in pretty much all other Expacs features a new Raid did add nothing to the game and Patch 6.2 added Hellfire Citadel and marked the End of WoD. No Patch 6.3.
So there are pretty much 2 Raids missing from WoD. Thats 2 whole Patches of missing Story and Lore. The Shattrath Raid is one of those who should have served as the middle piece to Yrels storyline and should have shifted the focus a little bit more to the Gul’dan, Burning Legion Story.
One theory i heard a lot at the time of WoD when all this went down was that they skipped on more Iron Horde Development because a large part of the player base where just fed up and fatigued with Orc Content considering SoO was about Orcs and the entire start of WoD is all about Orcs. So to avoid the Fatigue they just pushed for Demons faster and left out the middle Part. No idea if this is true but this theory was quite prominent.

Yeah that’s what I heard aswell somewhere, not sure where tho, makes sense because there was a whole Doomhammer questline chain supposed to happen, but it just never did… And in all honesty people talk smack about WoD alot, but it’s all Blizzs fault for ruining it, it’s not like they pumped out content like crazy and it was bad, no, there just wasn’t much at all… I really think it would’ve been one of the best expansions if it had regular updates, so yeah instead of talking bad about WoD they should just shift that towards Blizz lol

Grom was a Chad. Garrosh just a whiny prick. Grom wins by a large margin.

I’ve seen this around as well, which is a shame really because I feel that said Shattrath patch could have been an excellent opportunity to shift the focus from orcs to Draeneis in terms of world building and lore. Sure I can imagine that the bosses would have all been mostly orcs again, but could have been a good opportunity to start introducing some corrupt Eredars as well, thus making the use of Archimond as a final boss a little smoother as oppose to a “in case of emergency break glass” kind of scenario. Oh well!

Yeah bud I agree. I think WoD did a lot of things correctly that people tend to forget. Single player world content experience was much more streamlined. There was no grindy systems and messed up borrowed power systems either. I’m speculating here, I have the impression that Yrel was meant to be AU Maraad, hence why he sacrificed himself to save her (thinking this from the quote “in the light we are one” he said to her when dying). Maraad seemed like a pretty important character to me, very odd how he got so abruptly killed.

Could have easily been a multi-threat facet if this was the case :frowning: I too have heard of that Shattrath Raid theory.

Could expand on things like how/why the Sargerei were becoming more and more prominent by having a wing dedicated to ‘forced’ recruitment into its said ranks, demons still being present there. And then expand on other threats that were present such as maybe a dedicated raid wing for the Ascended Arakkoa taking advantage of razing Shattrath.

Needn’t have been just all about rawr angry Iron Orcs.
