What kind’ve music do you like to listen to when roleplaying, or playing WoW?

I’m fond of energetic drummy music, like Old-School Jungle and Hypertrance, personally. You wouldn’t think it’d fit a fantasy world, yet I find the rhythmic psychedelia of it helps me lose myself.

It’s also great when PvPing, as it keeps your actions per minute up.

Sometimes, when trying to get into a character, I’ll assemble specific playlists for them. The songs normally will reflect of their age, temperament, and personality.

Xynia for example has a lot of stuff like this, reflecting the fact they’re -very- old and moody:

I have playlists for each muse. So I play those when IC. Otherwise I just listen to whatever!

I have two lists.

The Cradle of Filth list and the everything else list.

It really depends for me.
Generally I listen the music in RP that I also listen while just casually gaming, much to the delight of my neighbors who got first row-places when I blast my music. Though, me letting them listen to music is proper payback for their neglectience that has me breathing their smoke-filled air.

Just to throw out a list of bands, groups and artists that I listen on the regular.
On the more rock and metal side I got:
FFDP, Disturbed, Static X, DragonForce, Dimmu Borgir, Coma Star, Marilyn Manson, Escape the Fate, Theory of a deadman, The Offspring, Rammstein, Sum 41, Rob Zombie, My Chemical Romance. And many others.

For the more “oldschool”-side I got:
The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Rolling Stones, ACDC, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival and so many more from that era.

On the more electronic-side I have:
Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Deadmau5, Pendulum.

For Hiphop and Rap I have:
Ice Cube, Eminem, Notorious BIG. Though I dont listen as often to that music.

Got also MGMT and Infected Mushroom.

And then there is one group I cant put into one category, really. They cover more than just one genre, so a bit more details on them.

E Nomine - The best german musician group to have ever existed. They combine electronic music with metal and orchestral sounds, choirs, latin and german texts that revolve around germanic, nordic, christian and pagan motifs or legends. They were one of these music groups where there was never a bad song they released. Unfortunately on Youtube you wont find high quality songs of their old days, most videos are from Youtubes early days and I unfortunately cant afford spotify to see if they got their old music there (Which, given the old stuff is over 25 years old and the group disbanded 20 years ago, probably wont be there).
E Nomine did return some years ago with a release of a remastered album, but the songs from that remastered album are mostly very bad remakes.

So yeah, Depending on the mood I kick any of these on full blast on my soon 20-year old stereo and enjoy my time.

The aforementioned cradle of filth, sabaton is also there alongside various other rock/metal bands of various sub types.

Though more commonly it’s critical roll, science videos, amusing debunking videos etc. Aron Ra and Professor Dave seem to be a regular background noise atm. Personally I find both needlessly rude and aggressive but I get why they’re that way.

Generally speaking I’ve had the same songs on repeat for the last 20 years.

Often I listen to whatever I want, which these days consists of either Rock / Metal or 6.2 hour long Goth Synthwave mix I found on youtube.

And sometimes I listen to music that fits the character I am currently playing. For example Danheim and similar old nordic music on my Warrior, or just Amon Amarth… all the way to Dark Souls inspired songs when on my DK.

WoW’s built-in music. I don’t need anything else for playing WoW.
