Ground clutter DX12 flickering issue

Hi,

On my PC which runs on a Ryzen 5 3600 processor and Radeon 5700XT WOW BFA runs very well with DX12 (there is a lot of stutter and issues with DX11 and Legacy that makes them unusable for me) except an issue with the ground clutter graphics. It doesn’t matter how low or high the setting is - whenever I stop or move my character this texture flickering occurs only on ground clutter, and is especially noticeable on grass heavy areas such as Ashenvale or Goldshire. This doesn’t happen on DX11, but as stated I find DX11 unplayable on WoW, so is linked directly with DX12. I do notice that if I pump the gamma up considerably this issue isn’t as noticeable… but I would rather avoid having to play with washed out high gamma graphics.

Is there any advice on how I could fix this on my end or is this a known issue that will be patched in the future?

EDIT - Here’s a video of the issue (apologies for the poor quality but it shows the ground clutter flicker clearly as described above):

Thank you.

Hey Argamir,

I would try to adjust your AA sample setting in the graphics menu as I know this kind of issue seems to happen if you have it set to Multisample Alpha. Hopefully that helps reduce or remove the flicker but if not be sure to let us know!

Thanks for the quick response Jingoraitin. I have definitely set Multisampling Alpha off (it negatively affects my framerate with no noticeable visable change) and also tried a different AA setting in general but still no cigar I’m afraid. I can try to take a short example video later if that’s helpful.

To give more detail - it doesn’t constantly flicker, but only when movement is instigated (character begins to run, character stops running, etc) once the character is mobile there is no flickering whatsoever.

EDIT - added link to the issue in the original post

Thanks for the video, it certainly added a bit more context. It kinda looks like it’s the shadow settings so I wonder if turning of shadows would fix it. If that doesnt change anything (as I know you mentioned before you lowered your graphics settings) then I would make sure to report the issue using the ingame bug report tool. That way the developers can see the report and hopefully find out what’s going on quickly.

Thank you though for all the details you have provided here as they are much appreciated

Thanks again - I turned off shadows and the issue still happens. I’ve raised a bug report as advised so hopefully it can be resolved by the dev team - but I appreciate you taking the time to look into it.

If there is a solution I’ll be sure to post it here in case anyone else has the same problem down the line.

Hey, I’ve the exact same problem, and the same config. Did you found something to do ?

Hey Lörnak,

This thread is pretty old and may not be relevant anymore. For a more recent one on a similar issue, check out this one instead: Black Flickering? - #35 by Veadsarias
