Sound like a Beorning in LotRo. Temporary Shifting.
I honestly like it. Current Bear is just way too dry to be fun.
No. Bad idea.
I like the idea of popping bear form but dislike going into cat etc.
As a Druid I’d rather have spells that bolster my defenses and if time right coincide with my bear form for a stronger effect.
This way in caster form you still deal damage, tank etc and Bear form doesn’t become a crutch spell but rather a bolster like vampiric blood.
However I cannot imagine Blizzard doing anything like this at current stage - they’re failing miserably at controlling classes now and the specs are basic asf compared to most MMos.
Remember when they removed removed true shapeshifting from druids? Sorry, but that is a terrible idea. Maybe if there was a choice to go back. Talent or something.
Integrate shape-shifting into tanking is a neat idea, but your suggestion just sounds pretty bad.
You might need to change the type of shape-shifting to make this possible.
Obviously everyone will agree that tanking in caster form is absurd so that would leave us currently with 3 forms.
Bear - sturdy protection against physical hard hitters (direct damage)
Cat - agile dodge against fast hitters (bleeds)
Owl - caster protection and semi physical protection, nature spells (aoe poison vines for example)
Then you would be able to choose which form against which mobs / bosses. In practice it might not work and is hard to balance.
You could also go a different way and implement different bear forms / tank forms as cooldowns. Werebear, iron bear, mashed potato bear, you name it.
Instead of ironfur and mark or ursol you would have a nicer visual but probably with a similar effect. That would be much easier.
Since blizzard can’t even get 1 form balanced right, they better don’t even try. And since bfa is already in the trash can they surely have no money to put in some now spells mid expansion
I rather see them to make bear form more versatile. Bring back Mark of Ursoc so we can choose between magic and physical damage mitigation. Also make utility spells castable while not in bear form. Feels horrible that we do have root and dispell but in real life we can’t use them because if we go out from bear form it is pretty much gg.
I would also love so they make affinity brought spells castable while in bear and cost rage. Would be great to have ability to throw reju or wild growth when needed.
