Guardian Druid Mage Tower - How did you do it?

Im just looking for some advice. im using shadowlands gear im around 220 ilevel with 25% vers. i can get to phase 2 but cant get far past the 2nd annihilate.

how did u guys do the challange? what stats, pots, scrolls, trinkets did u use and how did you manage your cooldowns?

For consumables : greater flask of currents, blood sausage, veiled rune, war scrolls, astral healing pot, unbridled fury pot and drums of ferocity.
Gear : mostly SL gear (including trinkets and not fancy ones, one was battlemaster and the other some random sh1t from world quest) just bought some cheap ilvl 50 shoulders and gloves in order to be able to add extra agility/stam enchantements
Tactics : I popped heart of the wild 1sec before the encounter starts pump dmg into variss, I use typhoon to interrupt his first drain life in order to maintain max uptime in boomkin during heart of the wild. When adds pop I use regrowth to get aggro, then press barking ( with brambles talent), wait until they finish their cast ( and they need to finish) then insta roar and finish them off( don’t forget to throw one moonfire at the eyes, one is enough). If infernals approach I get close to them and run away from their AoE while spamming mooonfire and sunfire on variss. Phase 1 is rinse and repeat of this.
Also very important that you don’t enter phase 2 with adds on you or spawning( eyes disappear when you enter phase 2 so that’s a bit of help)
Once you enter phase 2 pop drums unbridled fury and berserk and pump as much as you can. You want to tank first and second annihilate far from where orbs spawn so you don’t have too much green pools near the orbs. When adds spawn use frenzied regen to get aggro then handle them like in phase 1. As for defensive cds I went as follow : first annihilate = ironfur only, second : barkskin +ironfur, 3rd : survival instinct +ironfur and 4th : survival instinct + barkskin + ironfur. If he casts a 5th you’re basically dead.
Good luck!

Bear tartare food(burst of speed on kill), ordinary SL gear / consumables in general.
Made an old Legion Neck legendary by the Blacksmith in Dalaran, in order to get a Hidden satyr enchant on it and I enchanted my weapon with Lightless Force - thats pretty much it.
As Overspark states here, no adds up in P2, as little chaos as possible going in to the last phase, try to place green puddles away from Orbs / Velen, Kite in circles - the plateu is big.
The purple lines can be “jumped” over, and I usually Stampeed going into P2, almost right away, so I can get some distance, nice overview and going around the lines.

On a side note, the 10% nerf they implemented to Kruuls hp, its barely noticable, you’ll still most likely get 5 Annihilates, and the wierd thing they did to the Horrors, sure the 10% hp reduction is nice I guess, but the movement thing… makes it just harder to controll in P2, in my opinion they broke em even more now then before so yeah, but barkskin is great against them!
I usually Trash, Barkskin, Swipe twise, if they arent dead, I roar, more swipes

Good luck!

I’m really struggling in phase 2, dying when he is around 10% doing his 4th annihilate.
Popping survivals correctly , first: IF, 2nd barkskin + IF, 3rd SI, 4th SI and whatever is up, but main issue is keeping my health above 0 at this point.

Also I feel my dps is a little bit low aswell, doing around 720-780 (total dps).

Popping drums, phantom fire pot, also waiting with incarnation until 2nd/3d annihilate so I have better control with health, can pretty mcuh spam that FR.

My stats below inside mage tower aka scaled down to ilvl 50 and lvl 45
Agi: 298 (with spectral power flask)
Crit: 24%
Haste: 13%
Mast: 9%
Vers: 11%
Leech: 4%
Dodge: 22%

im no expert by any means, because im still on this. but i think youll need more vers, anyone who has it compete has more than 25% vers. donno if thtll help

If you frequently get to 4th annihilate with that gear you must be doing something very very right.

I have vastly better gear and rarely make it that far - although I did have a couple of lucky tries on 3-4%. I usually wipe to getting knocked off by infernals while trying to round up the adds.

You should consider farming plaguefall for the trinket or get some old expansion trinkets, they can make a BIG difference. You can also buy rather cheap gear with sockets on AH for some slots.

edit: finally made it. Turns out what I needed was some sleep and (more importantly) unbridled fury pots. Silly how much easier this challenge gets with a bit more dmg in p2.

shouldnt he be at his 2-3 annihilate around 10%?

easiest way for gear is:
buy all haste/versatility up as cheap as possible (ilvl as low as possible, cheaper repair)
with a jewelcrafter get the neck (karazhan midnight neck is better) and rings slotted
maybe the karazhan quest hands if you didnt do it before
first boss emerald dream trinket
legion artifact for double enchants (farm some first boss dungeon for artifacts - reset d.)
hellfire citadel bird boss trinket (maybe lfr fast farming-only once a week ;(; balance spec ? )
prolonged power for before entering mage tower
i do drums at start (for one elemental) and fury pot for kruul
warscroll if you can
hidden satyr neck enchant!
some food
both oils

p1: keep the 2 boomkin dots up + thrash 3 stacks all the time
start with a good boomkin rotation until first horrors and then bear berserk near boss
to get the 3 stacks of thrash running while killing the horrors with it. 2 stacks of that ground aoe max. so you dont die in owl form after. use defensives. :stuck_out_tongue:
p2: circle like running backwards outside of the middle. middle for horrors pick up…

get a weakaura that announces with a sound the interrupts and annihalte. with so much going on at once, those sounds are worth making the adjustments!

got some decent tries with that. still need luck with positioning. and the horror nerf in p2 is quite bad. if i must do an orb while horrors are at the portals, its a wipe most likely for me.

but one thing is certain. they never played it themselves lol

I bought low level consumables (± 20k gold) and did it.
I made it after 3 tries, so I sold off the rest and made 4k profit on them.

203 tries. Healer main since TBC with limited tanking experience. It was a wild ride.

All SL gear, gems and enchants except:

Prydaz neck with +7 agility gem
Feverish Carapace trinket from Goroth (ToS)

All gear gemmed and enchanted with versatility. Steak a la mode food. Claws of Ursoc weapons with Shadowcore Oil and Force Multiplier on both.

Prepotting unbridled fury before going in + same pot on p2 with drums.

Annihilate management:

  1. Barkskin + Frenzied regeneration
  2. 2x Ironfur (orb for heal)
  3. Survival instincts + Ironfur (abyssal healing pot)
  4. Survival instincts + 2x Ironfur (died due to not having IF up, and was low on health. Boss was at 2% and died to dots/npc dmg)

Don’t give up. Just keep going and the dream pull will happen. I had 4 fails with just a few % left while dying next to an orb. Don’t be too greedy with the orbs. GL.

I think persistence is key - I am confident that I did this damn challenge over 400 times (over a few days since it was released) before I finally got the win. I didn’t target any specific stats and just went in with random gear on (I still have it on as I just quit the game when I was done  you can go check my profile)

The 3 things I feel got me to the end and complete it

  • Potion of unbrid fury (Finally spent some gold on this, and it pumps)
  • IQD trinket (Haste was great in the 1st pump phase in P1 and again in P2)
  • Ravaged seed pod from 1st boss of Emerald nightmare, this thing is great… allowed me to clear nethers almost instantly

Good luck man! Keep at it, you will eventually get that pull!

Any good tips how to deal with the infernals? Although I am getting close to the end of P1, I very frequently die because the infernals kick me off.

Seriously, I feel like a ping pong ball…

Have you checked the video I shared about how I did P1?

For P2 ppl above elaborated good on dmg mitigation. Pop drums, incarn, agi pot etc to try burn his hp. Use orbs to slow Down annihilate. Aim at having 4 orbs up for P2. Be full hp when he casts annihilate. You Can get hp from orbs, frenzied regen, regrowth and hp pot.

Good luck!

Dodge their knockback and if you do get hit use Wild charge to get back on platform or goblin glider

Moonkin form Wild charge is good too if you face the right direktion (see vid I post in separate thread where I actually survive a knockback that Way).

Yeah, I try that. But they seem to more or less chain cast. If its only one, I am fine but once there are two or more it gets really difficult. They often get me when I am in Moonkin form and casting. Goblin glider is a good tip, gotta go and buy some of those!

Finished it today on my Druid. 79 pulls. I actually died from 4th annihilate at the same time as Kruul HP hit 0. Don’t have much to add except you don’t really need to be hardcasting in moonkin form once HotW expires. Just use sunfire while you are moving around. The infernals are tricky but I found it worked best to bait their knockback cast by either standing still for a few seconds or run through them.

Remember that Nether Horrors got a nerfed today so you don’t have to wait for them to start channeling Nether Storm, you can just incap roar or orb it right away as they start the initial cast. It’s not a huge difference but it makes it easier to not gamble on taking 1 tick of their channel (I probably had 15-20 wipes from them oneshotting Velen with first tick).

I also experimented a lot with Galactic Guardian vs Incarnation and I had all my best pulls with Incarnation. It’s especially useful on Kruul because you have 30% more HP. If you find yourself low on HP when P2 starts I would consider using a health potion instead of an orb unless you have 3+ ready. Having extra orbs to disrupt and delay his annihilation later on is crucial.

I had some old gear, but main thing I did was just using anything with gem slots. Most of my gems are +16 vers from SL. I used SL trinkets as well (same ones I have now). For consumables I used potion of prolonged power and/or potion of unbridled fury. If you are short on gold and have any alchemists I would pick prolonged power because it only cost 1 blood of sargeras to make 10 of them and you can easily get 6-7 by sprinting through any Legion dungeon.
My overall dps was 850. I think anything below 800 will probably mean you can’t kill Kruul fast enough. I think they should nerf Kruul a bit more. Either his HP down by 10-15% or nerf Annihilate damage and stacks. Atm most players will be completely dependant on old gear and consumable to meet the dps check for his 4th annihilate which will kill you unless you have full HP+Barkskin+SI.

Considering this are you sure is really worth HotW over mighty bash?

Kruul Annihilate cast is 30 seconds cd more or less, Bash makes you gain 18~ extra seconds in the form of Annihilate delay before 5th Annihilate happen.

Thanks man, that may sound simple but was a really useful tip. I stopped casting anything except Sun- and Moonfire and focus on staying on the move. Boss still goes down quite quickly and I am having much fewer problems with the infernals. Now I make it reliably to P2!

Depends where you are struggling. HotW helps a lot to burn Variss in start, especially first 25-30sec before you have too many adds up. That might be the difference between having an extra infernal up or not in P2. I know a lot of druids used Mighty Bash. I’d say both are viable and like I said if HotW can get you to P2 with one less infernal it might be worth it. If you are very good at dodging infernal knockbacks, you can probably take mighty bash instead to stagger out annihilates.

Yeah my opener was usually HotW>Starsurge>sunfire>moonfire>2x solar wrath. Then moonfire the first eye that spawn, and then you just go back pumping Variss for as long as you can. Just regrowth yourself once when Nether Horrors start moving and they will run to you instead of Velen. Then I just pop barkskin+sunfire them once. When they cast nether storm just incap roar it then>thrash>swipe>swipe. You can also pop incarn for first set of Horrors and drag them on top of Variss. You’ll lose like last 10sec of HotW though. Depending on your dps in P1, incarn should be back up again for second annihilate in P2

Another tip is if you are using combat potions that last 1 minute you can use one just before you queue up for the encounter. You’ll have 20-25 sec left of it when you can attack Variss and potion CD is reset so you can pop another one with your drums for P2

Best of luck to you all

Yeah, I read that a couple of times and it sounds like good advice. But … I am too cheap  At the moment, I still go in without any buffs or pots… will start using them once I feel I got the mechanics down and have a real chance at killing Kruul.
