Guide: Gearing a fresh char in the Undermine patch

This is advice mostly geared towards solo, unawares players, who aren’t really sure how to gear up a new char. It really doesn’t take a long of time to gain some nice pieces of gear once you hit max level

If there’s anything you take away from this post, it’s these things:

  • Don’t waste your Bountiful keys on low level tier Delves below Tier 8. Tier 8 Delves offer 639 gear and there’s no benefit to doing higher until Tier 11, where you get a Gilded Crests, which are used to upgrade items to the highest tiers
  • Understand how gear quality works. Gear comes with different max upgradable tiers, the higher the tier, the higher you can upgrade the item, but it also costs more rare resources to do so.
For ex. When you look at gear, it says on the item either; Explorer(green)>Adventurer(blue)>Veteran(purple)>Champion>Hero
Be efficient with your upgrade resources, not upgrading green/blue items, instead upgrade items from Veteran onwards that have your preferred stats/tier pieces. The resources to upgrade Champion/Hero gear takes higher tier resources.

Step 1: Grab all the quests from the main hub in Dornagol. You’ll also want to fly down to the PvP quest giver and grab the Sparks quest. This will give you a load of Bloody tokens, which you can immediately buy 632 gear, which is a huge upgrade from any content you’ll be doing as a fresh char. Heroic dungeons drop only 603 gear.

Step 2: If you have Honor or transfer honor from another char, you can buy PvP items that start out at 597. That’s a great boost to start out with on anew char.

Step 3: Fly to the Ringing Deeps zone and do the “Awakening the Machine” event, which gives you an item as well as valor stones and other things, it’s a solid event to do and it doesn’t take much time. You can also do Theater, if it’s active.

Note the first two items you get that give you purple chests will give you gear, the next two will grant you bountiful keys

Step 4: Go the zone with the Weekly Sparks quests you got from the PvP quest giver with War Mode enabled and get that done. You can do this by completely quests in the area, lootable purple nodes, it doesn’t require PvP.

Step 5: If you’ve completed the Undermine chain, you’ll have 4 dailies in the zone, near the rockets (unless it’s different this week). Do those, as you get Valor Stones and 100 Bloody tokens per weekly, repeatable quest.

Step 6: Find the WQ that is for 500 Bloody tokens, and complete that. Then return to Dornagol and buy yourself some 632 gear pieces. If this char is for PvP, I’ll turn the two best stat items into tier gear already. If you plan on turning a Champion/Hero piece of gear into tier, then you’ll have to wait.

Step 7: I would now focus on getting another purple lockbox, doing 3 quests in a main zone, then doing the final quest that unlocks in that zone. Keep in mind, that’s sometimes easier than it is depending on the zone. Also, focus on doing low tier delves/dungeons, especially if Timewalking is up, so you can loot your Disc fragments.

Step 8: Queue up for LFR, and see if you get lucky and can get some tier pieces, or another upgrade. It’s fairly easy once you get the fights and usually doesn’t take too much time.

Step 9: This can vary, depending on a number of factors, but if you can, once you’re about 610 ilvl, and if your Brann isn’t completely under leveled, do Tier 8 Bountiful Delves, so that you can get some nice 639 gear upgrades. If you have a healer/tank spec, that’s usually easiest.

That’s the gist of the guide, to gearing up quickly, and being able to do the content you need to, in order to start filling your vault.
