I wanted to share my experience with the Guild Bank bug that occurred with the launch of The War Within. When it happened, several guild banks lost their entire contents. In my case, that added up to over 10 million gold worth of items, materials, and resources collected over years of play.
Naturally, I opened tickets and hoped there would be a restoration process. Unfortunately, Blizzard Support informed me that they were unable to restore anything. When I followed up further, I was told once again they cannot do anything, and they made sure to include a subtle threat in there aswell:
“As a warning I’d like to remind you that continuing to ticket in on the same issue we’ve already addressed is neither productive nor is it permitted. I strongly recommend reviewing our policy page here as further contacts on this can result in your account being penalized.”
So not only was there no compensation or workaround offered, but players who continue to press the issue risk penalties.
After more than 10 years of playing, this situation made me reconsider my investment in the game. Losing that much progress without any kind of resolution or acknowledgement was enough for me to unsubscribe, and the threats from GM Herayris just put fuel to the fire.
Since I can’t post in General Discussions, I’m sharing this here instead. I’d like to hear from others who were affected by this bug:
Were you able to recover anything through Blizzard Support?
Did anyone receive any form of compensation or alternative solution?
Or was your experience similar to mine?
It would be helpful to know how widespread this issue was and whether anyone had a different outcome.
The GM interaction policy states that if they’ve already answered you, multiple times about the same subject they may issue a warning before taking any definitive action.
Please note that re-opening tickets about the same answered issue may clog up the queue for other players who may need GM assistance.
To clarify, it was my second time contacting support about this issue, but the follow-up was about 8 months after I opened the first ticket. I just wanted to check if anything had changed in the meantime or if there were any new updates from the developers.
They did acknowledge the problem, but I was still hoping there might eventually be some form of resolution for players who were affected. In my opinion, simply saying “sorry” doesn’t really address the hundreds of hours of progress that were lost.
The way this was handled also makes me wonder how Blizzard would respond if something similar happened with other types of data – achievements, mounts, pets, transmogs, etc.
That’s ultimately why I started this topic. I’m curious whether anyone else had a different outcome, if anyone actually had items restored or received some form of compensation.
It’s just a curiosity for me at this point, since I’m not going to sub again.
