Currently happened to 2 characters from our guild. Both of these players were unable to see another guild member chat appear in the chat box.
Both times it was the same guild member who was hidden in the chat. All of there characters are invisible in the guild roster when this happens. Currently this problem has disappeared for one of us, but it still remains for me.
By opening the guild tab, you can see what they are saying, but without a character name. The name appears as: [ ]
Other guild members are able to see it fine. Have tried with all addons disabled, doesn’t make any difference for me. Other player also tried disabling addons and hasn’t made any difference.

Update: The problem lies in the end of those who cannot see me/us. They need to update addons (ElvUI for som of my guildies). GL

having the same issue. but as far as i can assess, it apparently affects only me (i can not see one specific member).
I would like to add something here. I use addons, but nothing that affects the guild roster (and I am talking about the new one that uses key “J”). What I find interesting though is that if you access the old guild roster, the members show in there and as online which would suggest that both rosters are using different code to access the players.

This is a known issue that’s been happening for a good while now, and we’re still doing our best to resolve the underlying issue. There are some fixes we can attempt but they often resolve with server restarts. It’s inconvenient, but our engineers are doing their best! 
Same started happenign to me and a guildie today, also cant see guild events. However other guild mates didnt seem to have this problem
